Think I need a little reassurance ....

My DD started school in January, and after a bad start (she got chicken pox in the first week) she has settled in.

The problem is the mornings. She is crying some mornings and happy the other mornings.

Mondays are naturally the worst .. today was a really bad day. At first all bouncy looking forward to seeing her friends, but just as we pulled up outside the school she burst out crying. Saying that she misses me and doesnt want me to leave her

This breaks my heart! I gently try to reassure her and try to put on "you'll be ok" face.

When I picked her up, I ask her how her day was and she said "really fab mummy"

I spoke to the teacher too, and she said that my dd has settled in very well, very confident and happy. If only she could see her at 8.30am!!!

I am at a loss all the other kids seem to be ok even on mondays!

Thanks Verity

I know I am a worrywart! It just breaks your heart when they cling to your leg and you have to pry them off!!!!

I hope she doesnt do this until year 2!!

Got a parents meeting next week, so no doubt will find out more then

Kids eh? Who'd 'ave 'em!!

Most mornings my dd creates about going to school. She is nearly nine and adores her teacher. I don't know why she does it because it just causes a great deal of friction before she leaves. She is as happy as Larry at home time.

This morning my DS said he didn't want to go to school. On the way to school he dragged his feet and asked why he couldn't stay at home. When we got to school he again said he didn't want to go to school(!). Kissed him good bye. he then chased after me wanting another kiss, then another cuddle, then another kiss. 6 kisses, 3 cuddles, 2 waves and 1 thumbs up later, he had followed me almost all the way back to the exit door looking mournful.

He is in Year 1.

At parents's evening his teacher casually said that she can see he really enjoys school. So it really is a case of he is fine when he gets there.

Some children are just more sensitive and clingier than others.

It's very early days for your dd. My dd1 is in year 1 and still has mornings when she clings and says she wants to stay with me etc.. When I'm gone she is confident and happy. For my dd it's just that moment of parting that bothers her. Some mornings she'll say she doesn't want to go from the moment she wakes up and I know it'll be a bad handover! The teacher usually swoops in and whisks her away (in a nice way!) to make me leaving easier for her.
