i was helping dd to add 2 figure numbers and 3 figure numbers in the way i was taught at school ie
100+
10
----
110
----

when dh said that the world as we know it has changed and they don't teach it that way any more, they start from the left and use a grid but he had no real idea

anybody know how it works as i don't want to confuse dd

The grid method is multiplication.
What year is she in?

Do you mean a number line rather than grid? DD is in year 1 and they use a number line to help them add up.

maybe but it would be a long line over a hundred....
