Okay, so is anyone else freaking out about their babys starting school?

I was ok until I bought dd her shoes! Now I could sob everytime I look at her! Silly, cos she's excited. I know she will be nervous on the big day - Thursday! - but think its me that will be worst! Pathetic aren't I? Any other mummys feeling the same?

Everyone feels like that. They look too small in their uniform and school shoes.

How old is she? Both of mine had just turned four when they started (DS1 was four years and three weeks old). It makes it harder when they're so young.

my ds2 will start preschool for the first time and I feel like this too he has been walking around with a little pack pack since we bought it on saturday saying that he wants to go to school. While part of me is happy iI will get time to study another part of me wants to blub as he is my last baby

Lets hope so! She's 5 is Nov, and outgoing and sociable. I just hope she's happy at school. Just worrying I suppose. Its a big step for our little ones x

My DS started school today and I was dreading it. He only turned 4 last week and where we are in Ireland it seems the norm to send your child at 5 years ( though you can send at 4). But he was absolutely fine. In fact he can't wait to go back tomorrow!

Glad Im not the only one! My DS had his last nursery session last week (I kept him in for 2 sessions a week during the summer hols cause he loves it so much) and I was in floods of tears so goodness knows what I will be like next week.

He is 4.6 and is more than ready to go...but Im just not ready to let go of him yet!

He's an only at the moment (am still working on that one!) and Im a SAHM (well I work weekends) so I feel as though Im going to be losing my best friend as well. I had quite severe pnd after having him and spent the first couple of years not enjoying him very much...and now he is such a joy to be around he is being "taken" away from me lol!!

It was the knee high socks that did it to me!
This time next week.......she'll be at school
I'm going to miss the time we've had so much - swimming, baking, park etc.....I know we'll still do stuff, but it won't be so much or so spontaneous.
I think you lose them a little bit when they start school.

I am bricking it.

Ds has turned from excited to freaked out and his behaviour has gone downhill.

I am hoping that after we go in for the drop in (where we'll be there with him) that he'll feel better about it.

He tried to trash his school uniform yesterday.

DS starts full time tomorrow - just a week after his 4th birthday Have had to give up on the bedtime story and hand over to DH as I was in danger of blubbing.

DS can't wait but he is just so little to me!

It looks like its us Mums making this a big deal whilst out little ones are mostly taking it in their strides!
TheArmadillo, whilst I don't want to make platitudes I am sure once your ds has done his first day he will be fine x

Thanks MrsMoopy I think he'll be fine once he's settled in - it's the settling in part I'm worried about.

Ds is still awake but we had a nice chat about how my cousin (who ds was playing with today) thought it was really cool that ds was going to school and about all the exciting things he'd do (all lies but nevermind) and it seemed to make him feel better. And how other cousins who ds think are the coolest people in the world go to school adn think it's great.

He seemed to buy that

Plus me and him have a day to ourselves tomorrow and I think we'll have a nice day out and hopefully we'll both feel calmer.

If it helps anyone feel better, I know my ds is going to be a NIGHTMARE. This is despite having attended the nursery attached to the school for a year, having had at least a term in the 'shared area' with the reception class, despite, despite, despite. I might as well not have bothered as far as I can tell.

He won't talk about it. He used to cry when he did talk about it. I have bought no uniform, returned no forms, we're all in total denial.

He's hated nursery over the summer even more than he hated nursery normally so he hasn't been. He probably thinks: "game on, I've fooled them into letting me stay home forever".

He. Is. Going. To. Freak.

Ach well. I did what I could do. It didn't work.

oh dear that sounds worrying.

Do you know what your school system is for kids who are really distressed or what their tricks are for settling them in?

It is hard when they are determined not to like it.

ds1 starts plyschool tomorrow.

I'm feeling a bit ill tbh

(kidcreole, whereabout in ireland are you? most send at 5 here (roscommon) too but i'll be sending ds1 at barely 4 next year.... am already getting frowned on for that decision but it' the right choice for ds1)

I feel really sad. I didn't until recently, I have been looking forward to it, free childcare, both dcs at the same school, and suchlike. But now I feel like giving up uni and home educating!!! I am being irrational. I might have to get a piercing or tattoo, something random and a little crazy to cope!

I think once she has settled in I will be fine. She is more than ready for school and yes, no childcare costs is a BIG bonus. Its just the run up to it that I am struggling with. By Thursday I will be a jibbering wreck. I already feel sick when I think about it.
Her school is literally over the road from our house so I maz spend Thursday looking out of the window!!

DS2 is only just 4 and really young for his age. Part of me doesn't want him to go but the other part thinks after 9 years with a baby or toddler at home 2 days a week, I can't wait for the peace! Not sure he'll get it when the other 2 go on Thursday and he can't go for a fortnight

My DS starts 2 weeks today and I am already teraful about it!! He is going into reception which is about 5 metres away from his ursery class!

Every now and then he will appear from his room in his uniform or at least his verison of it! Today it was PE shorts, polo shirt, sweatshirt and plimsoles with no socks!!! Even that gave me a lump in my throat!

No i'm really excited but this is my 4th, I shall have a child in each key stage on thursday, but I shall have to make a sharp exit from the playground as I know I will blubb.

just sent my babies off, ds1 was happy as larry in the playschool and dd seemed relaxed enough at the school... although as predicted not talking at all

had weird nightmares last night and dp and i were up til 2.30 am worrying

My DS2 (PLB) is starting on the 15th.He has speech delay and really struggles with commuication.We found out at the begining of the holidays that he needs hearing aids because of glue ear.But because the hospital forgot to send referal letter to the unit where they fit the aids they couldn't fit him in till tomorrow.So Ds is being fitted tomorrow but not sure how long it takes for the aids to be done,but don't think they will be here in time for start date.I'm really worried that it will all be to much for him,getting used to the aids and starting school.
Then to top it all off he is so small,only just turned 4.My DN is only 2 and is as tall has DS.
