when do you buy school shoes? how many weeks before they start school?

hi my dd1 is due to start school on the 17th of sept
she is 4 years end of this month am new to all the school thing

was thinking of buying her school shoes and winter boots next sat

think i will do that just buy her school shoes next sat and leave boots till sept.
you can take back if not worn in a month cant you 2?
my dd1s feet never grow she is a 6f

School shoes and sports shoes at the beginning of August. Why would you be taking shoes back in a month? If you leave it too close to school start day you'll have hobson's choice.

my dd doesnt start till the 17th. just meant that they give u ur money back if say her feet have growm in a mnth

as late as possible. They are not obliged to take anything back or refund if it is outgrown or you change your mind. If you buy now she'll be out of them by half term.

but if they then don't fit come Septmeber you're no better off. Honestly they don't sell out that quickly, you can always ask a shop to order some in. dd was a similar size when she started, narrower too, and we found some Startrites at Jones the Bootmaker.

most schools start back around the 3rd of september, i would leave it till after then tbh. The that you DD has little feet will work to your advantage imo.

If she needs black school shoes, I'd start looking soon as you'll find very few in a 6. My dd has small feet 7f and there were very few that started that small..... Good luck!

i bought them yesterday. they go back 18 august (scotland).

bought black shoes and a pair of trainers for each girl.

2 pairs of cheap wellies (it's Western Scotland and the play yard is one huge, muddy expanse for a lot of the year).

Hi I always get Clarks school shoes in our local Jones the Bootmakers around mid August. You get loads more choice and as long as you dont wear them outside, my local Jones will re-check their fit in Sept just before they go back to school. If they are still correct size excellent! and if not they will exchange (not that my childrens feet have ever grown!)
My dd's feet were 8.5 last Sept and she has managed to have the same pair all year (clever girl!!) and her feet have grown over summer hols, off to get her some nice shiny size 9's in the coming week.

so...can someone please come and reassure me that all/almost all schools in England go back on 1/9 (or 2/9) - because DS doesn't go back until 7/9 so my cunning plan is to go on 3/9 (nearest day off) and miss all the queues (yes I am aware that I risk there being no shoes at all whatsoever in his size, but should that happen he will just have to survive a few days in old shoes or trainers. So there).

Damn damn damn. They go back on 3/9, and my day off is in fact 2/9 - so that would the worst possible day to go shoe shopping, wouldn't it?

I am going to have to bite the bullet, take good books for me, DS and DD and go earlier.

Go to a decent independent shoe shop (not Clarks ). The one I go to will sell you shoes now and then offer the chance to re-check fit and exchange if feet have grown just before schools go back.
My children however don't have freaky feet which suddenly grow a size over the space of a month so I have always been able to buy their school schoes early August and they have fitted until gone Christmas
I bought dd a lovely pair of Startrite shoes 2 weeks ago. They were fitted by the manageress of the shop and I can tell there is plenty of growing room there. So they should last until the end of hte first term (bloody well hope so at £34)

hipp - cheers for advice dont have any other shoe shops just clarks. my dd1 stays in shoes ages usually goes up half a size every 6 mnths
