Is this a worthwhile hobby do you think? Ds1 has expressed an interest. He's had a go at Cubs so I will look into it but I don't know much about it!

My ds is interested in this - but having had a quick look at clubs in our county most won't take beginners until they're 10, so I guess it depends how old he is.

A friend's DS does archery, as does the mum. However I don't think the son started until he was 10 or 11y IIRR.

It can be very expensive!

Yes, I gather the kit is scarily expensive! I found a course that will take 8 year olds + (DS1 is 10.5) and they supply the gear for the beginners course. Might give it a go. DS1 does karate but isn't into team sports at all.

I started doing archery at school when I was a teenager and carried on when I was at university. It was a great way for me to meet a whole set of different people. I never owned any of my own kit - you could always borrow from the clubs (ok, so it wasn't the best kit!). I have a happy memory of shooting at a big competition and using a welly boot for a quiver!

If you are near Hertfordshire Celtic Harmony run longbow clubs.
