Advice please on wording of a resignation letter

I am handing in my notice as TA tomorrow as have just been accepted on the GTP starting September last minute. Just to check: I have been advised to put "I would like to give notice commencing 4 August with the last day of service being 31 August." Sound ok? And I need to know: should I date the letter?

Thanks for any help

Yes, date the letter, and keep it brief.

ok will date. Is the above sufficient to ensure I will be paid over the summer?

Are you sure you have to give 4 weeks' notice. In our contracts it's a calendar month so that would have to date the letter end of July.

I didn't think TAs were paid over the summer holidays?

Some are, some aren't hana. It depends on local agreements.

But those that have a term-time only contract, still get cash over the summer.

ie. they get paid for 39 weeks of the year plus 4 weeks hols, so they get 43/52 of the annual salary. But this sum is then divided by 12 so they get an equal amount every month into their bank account.
