Help. Advice please. Class teacher has just told me something about DS that all mumnetters fear.... That...DS is. How can I put this 'average'. Ahrggggh

How do I cope.

trickerg Thu 02-Jul-09 21:52:00

Like the other 80+% of the population. I expect some parents read this and felt quite hurt because they may have received worse news. Think before you write things like that.

MangoJuggler Thu 02-Jul-09 21:55:05

what trick said

pooka Thu 02-Jul-09 21:55:46

hmm

randomtask Thu 02-Jul-09 21:56:07

Happily.

There's less stress with 'average' and I suspect he'll be happier for it.

zanz1bar Thu 02-Jul-09 21:56:22

oh are you my mum,?
shock
Aaaargh that makes ME average

TrinityRhino Thu 02-Jul-09 21:57:22

what an insensitive thing to say
<tsk>

MangoJuggler Thu 02-Jul-09 21:57:30

An average poster, yes

KEAWYED Thu 02-Jul-09 21:58:12

MIne was below average but now gone up to average Hurray grin

zanz1bar Thu 02-Jul-09 22:03:59

i have never been average in my life, no way are we related

Goober Thu 02-Jul-09 22:05:16

Count your blessings, my dear.

lilyfire Thu 02-Jul-09 22:05:33

When people who've excelled at something talk about what motivated them they often say it was the fact that their mothers let them know that they believed they were totally exceptional and could do what they wanted in life. I really wouldn't let a teacher's judgment that your son is average deflect you from your knowledge that he's actually a genius.

moffat Thu 02-Jul-09 22:06:07

I thought this would be about swine flu.

wrinklytum Thu 02-Jul-09 22:07:42

Theres nowt wrong with average. The main thing is if your dc is happy at school

(FWIW I would love my dd to be even remotely "average" as she has quite severe developmental delay)

HerBeatitudeLittleBella Thu 02-Jul-09 22:07:55

LOL.

I think some of you are being a little harsh on the OP, she is taking the piss, no?

purpleduck Thu 02-Jul-09 22:08:03

Everyone is excellent at something - so what if its not school?

zanz1bar Thu 02-Jul-09 22:08:25

Mother

Mother
gone and never called me .....

Where has she gone?

Wonderstuff Thu 02-Jul-09 22:08:42

My mum was told by my primary teacher that I was a bit thick ('would be lucky to get a couple of GCSE's' was the exact phrase) I'm quite clever really. grin Don't believe a word of it he is obviously destined for great things..

piscesmoon Thu 02-Jul-09 22:10:51

I think she is admitting to what most mumsnetters won't admit to -their DC is average! If they all had sky high IQs that would be the new average!

plonker Thu 02-Jul-09 22:44:09

Lighten up guys ...jeez ...

OP was clearly joking

trickerg Thu 02-Jul-09 23:06:01

Can see that plonker, but thought the 'joke' was insensitive for this kind of forum where a lot of people are worried about special needs and would love to be told that their child is 'average'.

LynetteScavo Thu 02-Jul-09 23:09:01

OP - the teacher is obviously an idiot who cannot recognise your DS's genious!

It was quite clear to me that she wasn't mocking those whose DCs struggle-just a few who can easily stand it!

Goblinchild Fri 03-Jul-09 07:44:22

I'm a teacher with an sn child and over 20 years of dealing with parents.
I thought it was funny, but then I can put numerous faces to the horrified response.
