Student Support Centre bumph - what's it all about?

We just had a letter about some organisation called the Student Support Centre, 'a company that provides help to parents who would like to offer their children a home based complement to their schoolwork' bla bla bla.

It says PS please return the reply slip ASAP so that the school is aware you have received the letter. It also said on the envelope, 'please return reply slip whatever your level of interest'

I am really not too sure what they need us to do that for. Is it some kind of contract with the company to distribute the letters, and do you think they are being paid to do this? If so I feel like not sending it back...that actual slip is addressed to the SSC, not the school anyway...and asks for personal details and to indicate whether you are NOT interested or would like more info.

Please stop me going all conspiracy about this. I'm not interested anyway btw.

Oh here we go, on the actual leaflet from the SSC which is included with the letter:

'We only ask that you send back the reply slip, whether you are interested or not, so that the school is aware you have seen the leaflet. This will place you under no obligation whatsoever'. and then in BLUE capitals:

Please return this reply slip to the school tomorrow. This information will not be passed on to other organisations. It is for use ONLY by the SSC'.

Thanks Cat. I've torn up the letter and emailed the HT quoting a random forum post so she can see what bad publicity they have.

I've said I trust she will reconsider the school's involvement with such a company.

My dc school send these out each year. I always send back with a "no thanks". I never get any cold calls or any thing.

I was told by our HT that she would never endorse the scheme but she always send the letters out as they pay the school a fee for passing the information out.
