Are there any bursaries/ grants for private primary education

Does anyone know of any bursaries or grants available to help fund children through primary education. Not impressed with local schools and have fallen in love with private school nearby but do not have a huge income to cover all costs. Any help or advice with this would be fantastic.

With the credit crunch affecting them as much as everybody else it might be worth calling the bursar and saying we'd love to send him/her/them but could afford x.
I got 3 for the price of 2 but that tends to be quite common.
Are you a teacher, could you work at the school ?

My ds's school doesn't offer bursaries for primary but does for secondary. Another local private school offers scholarships at 7 for children joining the school and I know of children who started at state school and switched, with scholarships, at 7. They had to take an entrance exam.

Thanks so much, I'm not a teacher but my husband is - but secondary! Calling the bursar is a great idea as I have a 1 year old who I would like to send there to when the time comes. Schooling comes around too soon it has taken us by surprise as ds is going to be really young for his year we had not really thought about it until now - should have started saving earlier - if only we were more on the ball.

bursaries/scholarships seem to kick in from age 7 or 8 around here?

Bursaries at primary level are rare, my dd is at a local state primary in your town and I was not happy at first but have changed my mind. I am not happy with the secondary provision in Blandford and will be moving to get her into a better school. You can CAT me if you like.

Am wondering if the private school is the one my dd wants to go to as we live behind its grounds.

Not at DD's school as far as I am aware.

Funding is becoming available for a few at ours, but only from Prep age(min 7+) I suspect. However you would probably need to show that your child would benefit from that particular school's education (academic, music, sport perhaps) rather than simply not being able to afford the fees and fancying it. I suspect those that do become available will be very keenly competed for.
