Sounds good cod - they're supposed to improve a lot with the first few practices, so he should be well above the threashold after 2 more. Chill!

Whenever I see these threads I thank my lucky stars we never did 11+, not sure I'd have survived the stress.

Was this mock set by his school? Presumably it was deliberately hard in order to put the wind up them. You should be focussing on the fact that he was 3rd and not what the pass mark was. It is how he performs relative to his peers that will dictate whether he gets in or not. Sounds as if he has done well (unless of course his school only ever gets one pupil a year into the grammar ). But sounds as if he is on-track!

Loads of time to work on it then. Yes it is shit having to obsess about it & he will probably get fed up doing tests after a while but if he wants to go to the grammar school (assume he does?) it will be worth it.

The trickiest bit actually is both enthusing them with wanting to go and giving them the idea that it won't be the end of the world if they don't

DS1 is mid-July & I honestly didn't expect him to get in but he did (if it helps ) And he is pretty competitive himself - was always desperate to keep up with the older ones - so I think that might make a difference.

My DD is doing the 11+ but I think it is done different over here. We get marked with A, B1, B2 etc. She has been doing mocks since Easter in school, now doing 2 a week. Our first paper is on Nov 7 then a second paper a couple of weeks later. She is usally about 10% above the year average, but I don't know if she's 'A' material. You can get into a Grammer with an A for certain but usually with B's as well.
