My dd has just started year 6, she is struggling at a level 2a for writing reading and maths. The school are being really helpful and she works hard at school. but when she comes home it is a battle, especially with reading.
school have suggested going right back to picture books and building up, I tried to get her to read to my mindees in the hols (don't have any after school so time is not an issue) but she just doesn't want to. I've tried stickers - filling a bookmark with treat when full, but it only got half filled.
Any tips or suggestions - books to capture the imagination? please!!

Have a look at this webpage -and do the alphabet code knowledge test and the nonsense word test:

Most children who struggle with reading do not know the code (especially the advanced code) and have poor blending and segmenting skills.
