I have

pressed all his uniform
embroidered his name on PE bag
polished shoes
charged video camera to record him meeting teacher and going in
charged camera battery and bought
new memory card so Dh can take candid snaps
have had hair done so nice in pics
had DH and DS hair cut so they look smart in their pics
made nutritious packed lunch and a snack
bought and wrapped welcome home present.

Is there anything else I need to do?
Nervous first timer

Wow - I think you should come round and be my kids' mother, you sound MUCH better than me! grin Sound like you have everything covered - good luck for ds' first day.

LinkyDinkyDoo Wed 03-Sep-08 09:33:54

I really want it to be a day to remember

nailpolish Wed 03-Sep-08 09:36:11

are you serious? welcome home present?

try not to fuss over him to much - it makes them nervous if you are and you should try to be a bit laid back to relax them

nailpolish Wed 03-Sep-08 09:37:27

yes its nice to have 'a day to remember' but it wont be if you are fussing and he gets so wound up by you fussing he is in tears

I thought I was being restrained by not giving him a gift this morning!

I bought a DS Lite as it sounds like all the cildren have them.

IllegallyBrunette Wed 03-Sep-08 10:39:48

You got him a Ds lite for starting school ?? shock

Blimey, mine had a card and some sweets.

RubyRioja Wed 03-Sep-08 10:42:49

A DS!shock

sandy4 Wed 03-Sep-08 11:02:21

ds3 was chuffed to bits with his kinder surprise yesturday!

mistlethrush Wed 03-Sep-08 11:05:40

I have to get a 'first day at school present' shock !!!

sandy4 Wed 03-Sep-08 11:09:19

& get yourself one while you're at it grin

Wags Wed 03-Sep-08 11:10:20

Please never let my DD read your post Linky, she will feel very short changed. Although i did buy her a Links bookworm charm to go on her bracelet to mark her first day at school. She was quite pleased with it but it was more for me really so she has some 'milestones' on her bracelet grin. Hope this morning went well and we will be checking with you in 6 months time to make sure you still send him all neat and pressed and that your hair always looks fab every morning!

mumto2andnomore Wed 03-Sep-08 11:11:32

Did you have your hair done or his ?!
You sound like you have everything covered but maybe need to chill a little bit.

Sidge Wed 03-Sep-08 11:11:34

I think I'll get myself a present when DD2 starts school - a bottle of wine, a huge slab of chocolate and a pile of trashy mags wink

seeker Wed 03-Sep-08 11:11:52

Be careful he doesn't expect a welcome home present every day!

serenity Wed 03-Sep-08 11:19:14

I.....

haven't done any of that

Neglectful third timer

In fact, as she's having the same teacher in reception as she had in nursery I pretty much did a 'dump and run' (We went in, she immediately started chatting to her teacher and her friends that were also starting today, I asked if we needed to stay, teacher and DD said no, so we went)

I'm sure we did something nice when DS1 started though...I think smile

LinkyDinkyDoo Wed 03-Sep-08 11:19:35

I thought it was important to create a positive association. I held back on a WII

I did have my hair done as well as the boys as I don't want the other mummies to think I am a scruff.

Do you think a thank you card to his teacher for helping him settle will be too much?

Sidge Wed 03-Sep-08 11:21:13

Now you're pulling our leg aren't you?

sandy4 Wed 03-Sep-08 11:21:24

possibly......

i think you missed one important thing - the red carpet from home to school....

sandy4 Wed 03-Sep-08 11:22:50

and a limmo to pick him up

LinkyDinkyDoo Wed 03-Sep-08 11:22:52

Surely everyone wants their little one to have really good start to school?

{grin] at red carpet - I am not that bad

lubyluby Wed 03-Sep-08 11:25:00

Seriously? Yes i do think a thank you card to the teacher will be too much.

I am shock at a ds for a first day at school present, but then again i think 5 is too young for a ds anyway.

Its my eldest first day at senior school today and my middle's first day in year 2 (but at a new school as we moved in the holidays), and the most they are getting is to choose dinner this evening.

On their first day i beleive, they had a sweet to eat on the walk home.

I am guessing this is not a state school or in the suburbs as i have never seen anyone videoing thier child on the first day greeting their teacher.

(or its a wind up?)
