lol i got told no when i asked a couple of days ago about dd1 starting 'big girls school' she starts tommorrow and i havent bought her one.

Ceolas Mon 01-Sep-08 23:38:23

Not unless he wants one. Usually everything is provided.

I take it you mean primary school?

GrimmaTheNome Mon 01-Sep-08 23:40:14

At DD's school they didn't need them during Infants at all. Its just more things to lose.

theirmum Mon 01-Sep-08 23:41:23

I was worrying about about our stationery status. Ds starting reception NEXT WEEK. Jeez. Theirmum - apart from clothes what else have you got?

<<fetches checklist>>

theirmum Mon 01-Sep-08 23:42:11

I thought that but didnt want him to be the only one without one it didnt even enter my head that he may need one until today when my mum asked if he had one

birdinatent Mon 01-Sep-08 23:42:23

Have never bought a pencil case or sent them with stuff on the first day TBH. They dont really need it in reception, its about getting used to school routine and all that.

Just send him with bag, PE kit and butties (if not on dinners!!!) and I am sure he will be fine.

Does he go tomorrow? Who is more nervous, you or him!!

Best of luck, hope it goes wellsmile

ummm Shoes and lunch box oh and bookback and pe kit and bag and tie and hat and coat and the list is bloody massive I had no idea it cost so much to send them to school his uniform has cost me nearly £300 shock

Overmydeadbody Mon 01-Sep-08 23:43:44

All stationary is provided in primary school. Don't send them in with anything unless you have been asked to.

All DS needed when he started was PE kit and plimpsoles and a water bottle.

theirmum Mon 01-Sep-08 23:44:30

he starts on the 18th we are going for pack lunch as I dont fancy the lunch ladies chances with him!

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore Mon 01-Sep-08 23:45:22

If you want him to stand a chance of not losing his pens, pencils, erasers etc etc, I'd say a pencil case ( a cool one, obviously) is a very good idea.

DD1 is starting secondary school this week, and needs her own pencil case for the first time. She is enjoying filling it up immensely.

Rymans have got clear ones for £1.29. BARGAIN!

Clary Tue 02-Sep-08 00:55:27

actually theirmum since that sounds like a private school (late start and tie and hat and £300 uniform) then he may need pencil case.

Hula's DD (who goes to private school) has to have one, she posted on another thread.

We have to provide one at junior level in our state school.

theirmum Tue 02-Sep-08 12:35:30

Clary you would think but no its a Catholic School they have the full uniform even down to the school PE kit for a 4 year old! think I will get him one just in case

Clary Tue 02-Sep-08 19:23:11

! at school hat in a state school!

What is it, a boater? (sorry)

I guess a tie is not that unusual in state actually. Is he not in till sept 18 because they start FS2 late or soemthing? See that threw me too smile
