I had to phone today to get some info and spoke to the PE teacher. What a lovely man! He even said it was lovely talking to me.

Just thought I'd share that there are some nice teachers around. I'll see how ds gets on with him and report back.

Perhaps I should start a sweep as to when the first outraged parent starts posting.. probably 8.59 am on the first morning back...

Schneebly- never mind bloody karma.. get bullet proof knickers and the off licence on speed dial

I used to compose a letter of resignation every September when I was teaching.

I will be keeping my head well down next week! I think I might need to start a hidden thread where I can seek support from other teachers - my new class is a particularly challenging one

MB - are you back at school at the beginning of term?

Report
robinpud · 27/08/2008 22:44

Ah, Kerrymum, bless you.. waiting until next week would have been agony. Still iirc you have just reason for posting.. and yes I am sure things will be fine.

Hope you are sorted for the beginning of term MB and are planning on taking it gradually.

Thanks MB

Robin - will remember that advice - thanks!

yorkie - your post just reminded me DS and most of his Reception classmates thought that the inset day was 'insect day' Lord knows what they thought the teachers were up to!

I have only ever really had cause to moan about one of Dc's teachers. She had dd for the first term of Yr 5 and was such a drip, and after 6 weeks still didn't know where the children sat in her class. She had only taught for a year before that. I was so relieved when we got a letter at christmas saying she was giving up teaching. The teacher that took over was the complete opposite and dd is having her for Yr 6 as well, which is good news

tortoiseshell · 28/08/2008 00:00

Well, dd has one of my best friends as her teacher

DS1's seems lovely as well. Hurrah for the teachers!

roisin · 28/08/2008 01:25

I've got INSET day on Monday, yr7s only on Tuesday, then back to business on Tuesday.

Why is that at this point in the year I always believe that the outgoing yr11s were the loveliest bunch of students ever, and that the incoming yr11s are still a rabble?!

ds1 (11) starts secondary on Tuesday (not mine), so lots of new teachers to get to know. ds2 (9) has a 'new-to-the-school' (male) teacher who comes very highly recommended, so that's exciting for him too.

I don't generally have any complaints about the teachers more about the school, they decided to start on a different day from the rest of the LA last year and didn't tell us, they also havn't told us which class dc is in. Is that normal? Their SATS results were dire this year so maybe they have other stuff on their mind

Report
AbbyLou · 28/08/2008 08:40

Not normal I don't think.
I'm back on Mnoday, kids on Tuesday. I think my new class will be alright but I've got some right fruitloop parents this year!
Will REALLY miss my old class though, they were so lovely!

Well my dds have been back at school for two weeks (Scotland) and they are really happy with their teachers. Dd1 has the same teacher as last year, which I'm very pleased about, and dd2 has two jobshare teachers, both of whom she likes a lot. We are having a "meet the teacher" night tonight so I'll see what they think of her

We have moved around a lot and the kids have never had a teacher that they or we didn't like (and they are both "challenging" children, though in different ways )

roisin · 28/08/2008 12:03

How old are your dds now Miaou?

This is an odd thread!

Do you not think people should discuss issues with teachers on mn then? I would have thought it was a good place to talk it through before deciding on action/otherwise.

Report
robinpud · 28/08/2008 13:16

I understand the need to talk through action or otherwise when dealing with teachers, but, there are times when as a teacher mumsnet is not the place to be. I don't think that other professions come in for anywhere near the amount of discussion. Just my opinion tho'

I'm sure they are, roisin -it's obviously your influence that turns each successive rabble into a lovely bunch of students.

Agree with Robin. Teachers do get a slating on here quite often. There are of course two sides to it. It's to be able to give desperate parents a bit of inside info or advice on education issues. I think, sadly, often schools are not aware of the types of issues parents want to know about.
