Storage for school stuff

I'd like to get some sort of drawer unit to store DDs school stuff in when she starts school in September. Probably something plastic & colourful that she can access & look after herself.

Not sure whether to get a 5 drawer one for every day or a smaller one for specific things eg rucksack, shoes, PE kit. If I did the latter how many drawers would I need? How many different items do primary kids have? Or would daily drawers be better?

None of mine were bringing things back and fore.

If things are different because of the pandemic, I'd actually have thought there would be less to-ing and fro-ing of stuff rather than more.

The school bag would just stay in the hall. shoes - depends if you are a shoes on or off household would presumably stay in the hall, or in their bedroom. IME they'd generally need clean clothes the next day. If you have to take in a water bottle, then you'd take it out and wash it then put it back in the morning. When they start having reading books, (not for months yet) you take it out to read and put it back in the bag.

So, IME you don't need a drawer unit for school stuff.

Water bottles stay in school for a week usually -

PE kit stays in school. The only thing mine ever took to primary school each day was water bottle, snack and lunch.

Book bag came home every day with water bottle and that was pretty much all.

PE kit stayed at school all week and would usually come home on a Friday every couple of weeks for washing. I had a spare pair of pants stashed in the bottom just in case but was never needed.

Maybe it's not needed then. Although because of covid they want everything bringing home every day so they can clean properly. Our hall is very narrow so we can't leave stuff in there, we have a little area round a corner for shoes & coats. I was thinking of something just to keep all the stuff neat & tidy.

It may not be helpful but when DC were in YR we kept everything in the kitchen - book bag, uniform, shoes, coat etc. all lived in the same place.

It meant that mornings were easy. DC came down for breakfast in jammies, got dressed in the kitchen, cleaned teeth, everything in the same place ready to go. No chasing around the house or distractions.

Just a double hook on the wall and a space underneath, maybe with a little shelf. Maybe something like this? Water bottle and lunch box can go on the shelf, shoes underneath and everything else on the peg.

I’ve just got a 5 by 5 Kallax Ikea for all their school stuff and book & shoe storage which works well.
