Haywards heath Primary and secondary school

Luckily HH has lots of good schools. What year groups were you looking for? What’s important for you and your child in a primary school?

Bolnore Is highly rated, but the catchment is only Bolnore and it was over subscribed this year. Very close to Rocky Lane though. Not sure about the other local ones!

Primary and Secondary is preference

There are two secondary schools each has its own merits and depends on your children’s needs.
What do you need from a primary school? When you say you have a preference for a primary and secondary school that doesn’t really make sense. It depends on the age of your children.

Fox Hill village is a short walk from my house. My children both went to Wivelsfield primary. Chailey is a good secondary and there's a bus stop in Fox Hill for the Chailey bus. It was over-subscribed this year but very doable.

Not sure about state primary schools in Haywards Heath as neither of mine went to primary school. I would avoid Warden Park, it's over subscribed but rife with drug problems. The school takes in the villages around H.H and it's very aspiring LM's who favour it.
Oathall is very good. The head teacher came over from Lancing college and brought with him a lot of very positive changes. Its unique and if you're DC like the outdoors they have a fully working farm on site. It's in Lindfield which is a pretty village on the outskirts of HH.

It’s interesting how Oathall and Warden Park have changed round. I’ve heard great things about St Paul’s in Burgess Hill too, albeit that you have to be Catholic to get in.

to be honest .. I am looking at long term stay in one place by getting a property sorted near to good Schools.

I work in Horham at the moment, but the situation may change later thinking about traveling to London Bridge.

The first preference is Primary school, 2 Kids one boy and girls about 6 and 2 .. Still there are many years for them to be on secondary. however from buying a property perspective i am just looking a long term view on both Primary and Secondary,

Wife will be working in the NHS after a year or 2 . believing the hospitals are near to HH and BH.

is St Paul’s won't allow other religious students? we follow Hindu and I dont mind sending them to other religious schools.

There is a catholic primary and a Church of England primary as well as non-faith primary schools.

Like I said, all the primary schools are good in HH and it’s just your personal preference and if you live close enough/satisfy the admission criteria.

My understanding is that the primary catchment on the Rocky Lane development is split between Holy Trinity Primary in Cuckfield and one of the Haywards Heath schools, I don’t know which.

With regards to senior schools, I have 2 children at Warden Park and have not heard of any drug problems. Both Warden Park and Oathall are good schools.

I believe the catholic primary school in HH is St Joseph's.

Yes, Catholic is St. Joseph’s and Church of England is St. Wilfrid’s. Both good schools but you need to visit any school you are considering.

If you’re looking at the new builds on Fox Hill, you may need to look at the plans for the Mid Sussex Northern Ark, it’s a new development of houses through Burgess Hill from the a23 to Haywards Heath across Isaacs Lane through time Fox Hill. The Rocky Lane development falls in to this. There are new schools planned near to Fox Hill, a senior school and perhaps a primary, but I’ve not looked for a while so you would need to research.

I used to run maths clubs at Blackthorns, I was impressed by the motivation and attitude of parents and children. The children were calm, polite and keen to learn. In contrast to Manor Field school which was chaos, and the children were very poorly behaved, disruptive and many seemed to have difficulties.

Mixing makes a good point. I don't know much about the development plans. I'm trying to avoid being informed.....I'm moving instead! eventually Sayers Common to HH will be one big mass of housing, and not much else.

any one also suggests Burgess Hill.is ok to move ..HH and BH both look near not too much far and good houses there as well.

That's my old school! Ne'er a drug would have passed the threshold in my day.

Burgess Hill is better value for money and has more facilities but is a bit less "naice" than Haywards Heath. I know a few people in the area still and I think HH primary schools are generally considered a bit better than BH, but that might be purely their opinion. Their kids are a bit older now but the primary schools with the best reputations in general were Bolnore, Harlands, Lindfield Primary, St Wilfrid's, St Joseph's. Warden Park Primary Academy was considered one to avoid but things may have changed.

Haywards Heath have always had a greater number of commuters, it's one stop up the line on the mainline into London, and you can pick up a fast train into London. Burgess Hill and Wivelsfield station have trains into London every half hour.

Haywards Heath has always had this slightly superior vibe in its attitude to Burgess Hill. Both have a significant number of new builds. Burgess Hill is having a face lift with a huge investment into redevelopment of the town centre, and will soon have a better town centre than HH, and the Triangle leisure centre is better than HH.

The new build properties around the outer edge of HH are less than a 5 minute drive to BH. The whole area will eventually feel like a giant Housing estate....albeit a pretty one with some trees!

I've lived here for years (don't care about being 'outed') and I'm moving now! regards quality if life in Mid Sussex, I'd say its pretty good, amenities and services are good, people are friendly, still some nice open spaces. If I were to stay in Mid sussex I'd probably look at Warninglid, Bolney, Staplefield, maybe Cuckfield or Lindfield.

Go and take a look, the area is primarily older ex local authority housing, they have big gardens front gardens and space between houses.

When I have driven there for the local shop it seemed okay.

I personally don’t like the area around. When I was buying, I was advised to avoid anything near America Lane or vicinity. I used to visit the area regularly and I never got a good feel for it. Oathall School is very close which means it gets a lot of traffic around drop off and pick up times too.
