How much if the Y6 curriculum is left to cover?

Absolutely fuck all, bar revision - for example, had noticed from my drip feed problem of the day that my class appeared to have no memory of perimeter or area so had planned emergency revision over this. Now - nothing. I would have covered statistics at 90 miles an hour then relaxed the curriculum after SATs to involve fun things like Mario coordinates, economic projects,etc.

We had one more week of Ratio and Proportion, one week of basic algebra notation and then revision in Maths. We were half way through our final writing unit - short stories.
History complete.

Still to come after SATs - DT Electric buggies, Science adaptation and evolution, Sex + Relationships education, Art painting in acrylics + a sculpture project, RE project on prayer/meditation + Geography work on OS maps. It would have been a really fun Summer term!

Most of what's needed is covered in year 5 and is repeated and consolidated in year 6.
So just Says practice.

Quite a few schools will have told parents what they are covering term by term. Was any of this info on their web site? Guides abc ideas for parental support for example? You could check to see if other schools have info that can help you.

We’ve been bombarded with worksheets and topic work and DD and I are finding it all a bit much. We were hoping to do some art and DT and sewing, all things that need doing around the house!

Today was the first day of trying to all work at home but also organize for distant elderly and ill family. And worry about money. And the actual roof falling in-it’s almost literal Chicken Licken here.

DD was almost crying so we all got fraught and then thought sod it and went for a socially distanced.

Lots of DC are known to over achieve in Sats. The secondary schools tend to test again when the DC arrive or soon after. If Sats results dip, targets will dip too. Most DC will not become poor at subjects overnight. Choose the best and most useful worksheets. You surely don’t have to do them all right now?! Pace the work and do fun things too. Cookery, art, history and geography can be a bit more fun at home.

My new idea is to just do enough maths and English to keep my Y6 ticking over, to get us out of bed on time and to give us some structure.

We will aim to do a few hours of school work every weekday morning.

My class still had missing angles to do, volume and finish area of triangles/parallelograms.
That gave me 2 weeks for revision. Any more Revision than that and they just become brain dead and uncooperative!

Lots! But we are in Wales and don't have the SATs to feel we need to have covered (and revised) everything for. We do cover the work in a more spread out way and there's plenty still to cover.
