Year 6 and Year 2 SATS.

I really hope they give up on KS1 SATS. My DD is in Y1 and is on PIVATS (i.e. not yet accessing KS1 material though she's getting there) and it would be so pointless to do them for one final year for her, she's the last year that's supposed to do them.

I really don't think sats are that important, especially ks1 sats. It's good to know if you are ks2 ready or secondary ready, but it won't determine child's life. If your child is only one not taking, it may make a differnce, but if all yr6 aren't taking it, the school need to figure out themselves where each children's targets are. That is all. Especially for yr6, most of this time of year is revising for sats, meaning they are going over things they have already learned in primary. So, I think yr6 are the ones who are most likely not to be affected by this.

I wonder if this might be the end of SATS. It’ll be hard to argue how important they are once a whole year merrily carries on without them.

I didn't realise my message above had posted. Thought i started it then deleted it. Anyway school gave her a target based on their own tests and it seemed right for her, plus she seems to have been put in sets that are right for her.

My DS did his SATs yesterday and today. Whilst they were only the mock papers (I assume) the results will still be used in the same way (again an assumption by me)

The importance of real sats was to make a official GCSE targets, which school would be responsible to make sure the children met their target. So, if everyone took sats and only your child didn't for some reason, it could disadvantage your child because there aren't any official target for the child, so they can concentrate on the ones with official target. But if no children has it, then everyone is equal.
So, I think they may use mock result, but it's not the same, Widow.
