Wrong spelling in spelling test

My five year old son has come home with his spellings with one of the words spelt wrong, it absolutely amazes me that a teacher didn’t notice or has spelt it wrong themselves but expects a five year old to be able to spell it. Would you teach the wrong spelling to ensure they get all their spelling right or teach the right spelling because it silly to spell words wrong? The word it astronaut but was spelt astronaught.

Astronaut is a bloody big word for a five year old to learn!

What happened to rug, jug, pug?

Has he got the right spelling sheet?

Of course it’s silly to spell words wrong. The teacher probably had a brain fart and did it without thinking. Just teach him the proper one and tell your son to tell the teacher to check the spelling of it.

And yes, very difficult for a 5 year old!

I’m glad you think it’s too hard the other words included Author and Autumn, I’ll put a picture of the list.

I would teach the correct spelling and probably write a quick note to the teacher to let them know. I don't think the word itself is too difficult though; they're probably learning the au spelling of the /or/ sound in phonics and it is listed as an example word in the guidance for teaching spelling for Year One, along with author, August and dinosaur.

I believe she has taken this from here where the object is to put in the correctly spelt word. Hence she has copied one of the wrong choices.
This is for Year 1 so appropriate for a 5 year old.

It's just a mistake or typo, it happens when you're tired and multitasking and don't have time to proofread
