DS1 is a voracious reader and I can't really keep up! I tend to get books out of the library for him, but would like to know if there are any lists of 'recommended books' suitable for 8-9 year old boys?

His reading ability far exceeds his emotional maturity to cope with e.g. very scarey/ horror/ complex stories.

The sort of stuff he likes is your typical action/ secret agent/ space adventure etc, so:

  • Astrosaurs
  • Jack Stalwart
  • All the Jeremy Strong

I'd just love to have a list of 'age appropriate' books/ authors I could looks for!

Michael Morpurgo
Roald Dahl
The Roman Mysteries by Caroline Lawrence
Usborne Readers (they are in graded difficulty and range from traditional stories, Myths and Legends to whackier stories about Robots, Chocolate etc)
