Best primary schools for sports - Guildford

Hi everyone,

My partner and I are looking to move to Guildford area for better primary state school options for our son.

Ofsted ratings are useful for academics but he’s quite a sporty kid so would be great to get some insight on those that offer good inter-district / county level options (ie athletics, swimming, football etc).

Thanks!

Ravenscote in Frimley - near Guildford - is good for sport.

As far as I am aware, none of the state primaries in/around Guildford have any particular focus on sport. They will all offer the usual twice weekly PE lessons and most will have various clubs after school as well.

There are occasional inter school sport competitions amongst the different primaries (my son in yr 4 has done a couple of cross country ones and I know yr 5 and 6 have done football/netball ones)

Few local primaries have their own pools - Boxgrove (in Burpham) does have an indoor pool and Queen Eleanor’s has an outdoor one but swimming won’t feature at most primaries bar a term or so usually in yr 3/4 at Spectrum or Surrey Sports Park pools just to meet national curriculum requirements.

For ‘serious’ sport you’d need to join local clubs outside school - Guildford City Swimming Club which trains at Spectrum is good for swimming, there are athletics clubs there too, and loads of local football clubs etc.

Once at secondary there are wider options, especially if your child is talented at a particular sport

Inthink it’s Holy Trinity who wipe the floor with everyone else at every District Sports competition. That’s only against similar sized schools though so you’d have to see how others get on in the size ‘division’.
