Anyone else waiting for the primary league tables to come out?

We're on the fence about DS' application for 2020 entry as the closest school has had a few years of poor results but now seems to be turning around with a new leadership team. There are a couple of possible alternatives but both are a little small and one is also a Catholic school. Anyone else at least partly basing their 'decision' on this year's results?

These are the ones that were published this morning for 2018-19 will most likely be an update on what schools have up at the moment.

Not perfect, though I haven't had time today to dig down as I suspect some results will be to do with the school's demographic.

Plus, I suppose there's only so much even the best leadership team can do in a year

Yes, it does take longer than a year to turn a school around. What are the progress scores like? They’re helpful even if some of the demographic isn’t educationally minded.

thehorseandhisboy, it means what it says on the tin. Some kids/families study a lot while others believe kids should have more time to play/don’t believe in homework.

Our juniors was shite on the league table - but the neighbouring high flier actively deters parents with SN children from applying and the parents there will chirpily tell you "oh but it's not the most inclusive school" while slagging ours off over the tables.

I know it was a very challenging cohort and they'd had a real rough time when the results came out so I'm not unduly worried as long as they're on the case with it - I'd rather my kids went there than the high pressure, we don't want SN children place.

Jesus wept. There are so many other indications of school quality and educational experience that cannot be measured and don’t appear on any fucking league tables. But, you know, carry on... after all your child clearly must have ‘the very best’.

Fortunately, most educational research doesn't support that view.

I literally stated in my op that we would only partly be basing our decision on league tables and that I was aware it was only part of the picture.

All the schools we visited had a nice vibe. But there's only so much an open day can tell you.

Yes, I do want my children to have the best I can provide. Hardly unusual, is it?

I would focus on EYFS - schools can change very quickly and it's first couple of years that matter to you now.

Although the best thing to do is send your child to a school that you can work with and they will be happy.

You can study all the data you like (remembering to take into account at progress figures) but the key factor influencing pupil achievement is parental engagement.

League tables can only tell you how that particular year group has done. In a smaller school this can vary drastically year on year just because of the cohort.

No point basing it solely on league tables though - what would you do if the league table position slipped while your child was a pupil??
