We have recently moved to North London/Barnet, my DS starts reception Sept 2020. What are the good catholic primary schools (state or private) in the area in your opinion?

Our lady of muswell hill and St. James are both in muswell hill. They are both outstanding and have a great reputation locally.

I can't see how you would get a place at a state school in Muswell Hill with a High Barnet address. However St Catherine's catholic primary, in High Barnet, is outstanding (I think) and very close to the tube station. I think you have to demonstrate church attendance for a period of time before applying, check the admissions section on school website.

Smogsville, you can get a place in muswell hill schools even if you are not in the borough. Just depends on availability. Plenty of kids in our lady of muswell hill are from Barnet. They are usually undersubscribed even though they are outstanding since there are so many outstanding schools in the neighborhood.

Thanks - I didn't know that would be the case. We're v oversubscribed here in HB with more than 30 in many classes so the opposite scenario. Good luck OP hope you can make it work although I would say I wouldn't want to be doing HB to MH journey every morning as public transport not straightforward and traffic probably challenging.

Thanks, I visited St Catherines and it looked like a really lovely school. 30 kids per class with 1 teacher and 1 TA, and during recreation time 3 groups (nursery and 2 reception classes) mixing.
In case we don't get in looking for alternatives.
Our attendance is confirmed in previous parish.
I agree, Muswell Hill tricky with 9-5 job.
