Hey

Just looking for some advice. We are moving from out of area to the wirral and my head is buzzing!

So firstly we want a g really good primary school with good progress scores and where they prep them well for the 11+.
We have seen to amazing houses 1 in higher Bebington and one in Meols. Love them (prefer the house more in Bebington)
Since we are moving I p and also planning another child I woild live to have that community feel, good neighbours in Bebington it doesn't seem quite like Meols with the community.

Thank you xx

All primary schools in Wirral LA are well used to pupils being prepared for 11+ exams as they have had grammar schools forever. Regrettably there is also a considerable level of tutoring that goes on, so the actual progress results that the primary schools get may not be a true reflection of the capability of the schools.
You need to be slightly careful that you are actually in Higher Beb as you are not that far from being in Cheshire West and Chester LA, who do not have grammar schools. Having said that in terms of secondary schools you should consider also the schools in Cheshire West, like Neston High as there are a significant level of pupils whose parents chose to send their children to Neston, rather than the grammar schools or other secondary schools in Wirral.
To be honest I think you would be best advised to visit the primary schools and see what you think of them around the two areas you are looking at, as the best way forward.

Agree with admission. Schools in Wirral are well set up for 11+ but no-one passes without tutoring. There are some very good comprehensive schools here. My kids go to comps. I know this isn't the point but I can't stand it when people say the Wirral. It's either Wirral or the Wirral peninsula.

@DrEllie I grew up in the Wirral as did my DH and a lot of our family and friends are still there. I've never heard anyone NOT refer to it as "the Wirral" Confused

I can't comment on the state of the primary schools though - it's a very long time since I left but I'm pretty cynical about grammar schools (despite going to one) and I'm glad my kids have grown up in a non-selective area.

@lakeswimmer I agree about selective schools. So glad my girls didn't want to try the grammar school route. As for 'the Wirral argument' seems like it's always a runner www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/wirral-vs-wirral---see-7397809

😀 it’s The Wirral. That’s what everyone calls it.
