grrr I PROMISED myself i would never get caught up in this shitey shite

this is dd1s old friend who has gone to a private primary (4 int eh class!!)
it was the bit when she pointed to the national average of level 3's (22% or something) and then to her dds class (80%). I said god that is shocking really (dunno why) and she said 'well you know, bright children'

oh it just pissed me off, I expect I'm all jealous and that.

I feel better already, thanks.

Oh I had a mate like that Enid, too

Drove me MAD

After year 2 SATS she was crowing about what her DD got - my DD actually did better than hers but I didn't say a word, I just sat and smiled and felt a bit sorry for her

Enid · 13/07/2007 10:21

she sounds like a loon

imagine only having 3 friends because that was all that was in your class

I hate that some people think that going to private school somehow also buys intelligence

weird that she'd point out nat'l averages. fine to say how her daughter did I think, but leave it there

If it makes you feel any better, my supposedly clever DD1 got a dreadful report and pretty damned average exam results. That'll teach her to sit back on her laurels!

well quite Mrs B

all girls too

and her dd cries herself to sleep atm as her 'friends' say she is ugly - so I guess my poor friend has her own crosses to bear and this is trying to justify it

still it got up my nose

you are not jealous of her, really you aren't.

Think of the one child who didn't get level 3s in that class!

Well there you go, Enid. Your DD is happy and doing absolutely fine, and hers is miserable.

Lets face it the SATS are only for the schools league table so they can show the world how well they coach the 7year olds!
I am saying that from the position of my dd doing pretty well. I would rather she hadnt had to do them though!

Enid · 13/07/2007 10:25

foxy

i hadnt thought of it like that

tis difficult though as my friend keeps giving me prospectuses and inviting me to open days

you must be joking I say in my head

have come up with lame/pompous excuse that dd only has female siblings so I like her to be at a mixed primary

Why would she want your child to go to a school that has reduced her child to tears?

Report
ronshar · 13/07/2007 10:26

They dont

Ditzymumofone · 13/07/2007 10:26

Would you rather her child did badly? Why do parents worry about what others do. Be pleased for her and only bother about your own.

Report
Enid · 13/07/2007 10:28

no of course not ditzy

dont be daft

OP posts:

MrsBadger · 13/07/2007 10:28

they don't have to

but some do them anyway so parents have something tangible to comapre with other allegedly inferior schools

Report
hana · 13/07/2007 10:28

ditzy, i think it was the fact that the friend compared her daughter's private school results with national averages - not comparing their daughters

Report
Enid · 13/07/2007 10:29

yes it wasnt comparing my dd (threw her resulst away unopened ) with her dd

just pointing out the averages

oh i know its stupid and petty

How does a private school make it pay with only 4 children in a class? The fees must be extortionate.

That's the problem with SATs generally, I think. They cause people to compete, but it's pointless because children mature at different rates. DD1 got terrible SATs results last year (year 6) but her report this year shows an amazing turnabout (new school - big local comp, about a gazillion in a class ). Swings and roundabouts, m'dear. It is annoying, but just smile mutely, through gritted teeth.

I don't think the KS1 SATS are published any more anyway (though I think they form the base of that value added score that gets published - though I may be talking out of my arse)

god no enid, can you imagine being in her class - she probably wants you to go there because her dd desperately needs more friends I'd imagine (and perhaps she does too!)

think the same sex sib excuse is a good one tbh

Enid - the poor woman has no understanding of statistics and how averages work.....well, you know, dim parents....

4 in the class! Goodness no wonder there are friendship issues. They may have good sats results but it doesn't sound a happy environment - much more important at this age.
