Maths Makes Sense

The children's school uses MMS for Maths. It's taught with cups and diem sticks and the children draw out maths tables for their Maths stories when showing their working out.
The big thing is they don't count/use numbers 11 12 etc they say onety-one ontety-two and then two-ty for 20 three-ty for 30
Dd says she gets told off for using 11, 12 20 30 etc
The children are about to move schools is this method going to be a big bar to her keeping up with her next school who gave me a very strange look when I tried to explain the counting

What a bizarre way of doing numbers. No wonder they gave funny looks at the new school

I know what the scheme is I'm just wondering how easy it is for children who are immersed in it from Reception to adapt to other teaching methods the language used is very different

If you watched the video they don't say onety one or twoty one or threety they count just the way we do ...eleven, twenty one and thirty

I did watch it and those children are older. When children start until about year 3 they do say it and when they show workings out they draw out cups

We use maths make sense. The children learn that one ty one , one ty two are counting in maths and in English we say eleven and twelve. They really do not seem to have a problem...

Why learn it that way though?

Thanks Hels. She and her friends are using them all the time where you would say 11 12 etc maybe she senses it is driving me bonkers in my head.
Demented Pixie apparently it helps with number placement I have to admit I don't see how.
