HI All,

He is currently in Year 3.

His teacher says, My son needs to improve his reading comprehension.

Can anyone suggest me some good online platform/resources to improve reading comprehension?

Thanks,
Bob

I would say that the best way to improve reading comprehension is by reading and discussion with a person, not doing online things. Something online will inevitably have multiple choice answers so there can be instant feedback, but to improve actual understanding of text he needs to work on thinking and talking around what he has read. Read with him and ask open ended questions - why do you think they did that, how will he do that, what do you think she will do next, etc. Show a real interest in what you are reading together and give some opinions on it yourself to really engage with what you are reading. You could also try reading aloud a book to him that he can't yet read himself and do the same sort of discussion, so you aren't asking him to always do the reading.

Read with him/ to him. Predict what might happen next.... ask what was your favourite bit in that chapter and why? Discuss the meaning of unknown words - get him to give an example of that word in a sentence. Listen to stories together and chat about what is happening.
