Teachers hair colour

Would you be upset if the person teaching your child had dyed their hair pink? I didn't know what to think when I seen it. Is it professional?

Really?? Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest hair colour is an indicator of teaching ability

I wouldn’t care. In fact I’d think it was pretty awesome.

It wouldn't bother me but if DD wanted colour in her hair I would let her when I would otherwise make her wait til the holidays

I don't see why it would matter.

If they can teach your child to use "seen" and "saw" correctly then I don't think there's any issue with their hair colour.

I'd file it under Things That Are None Of Your Business, tbh.

I wish I had had pink hair when I was teaching.

Is it like bright pink or a pastel pink? Not that it matters at all. Who cares?

Pink hair is cool, judgemental people are not

I would raise an eyebrow if it was against school policy for the pupils to have unnatural coloured hair.

Does pink hair block your capacity to teach?

Have had this situation. Two of the best teachers I've had the pleasure of being connected with. No connection between hair colour and talent, skill and dedication.

Wouldn't bother me but it would not be acceptable at the school I work at. I dyed mine partly pink over summer last year and might do the same again when I go on maternity leave. I think it'd be hard to enforce a natural hair colours only policy for pupils and not for staff.

It depends how its done. Some colours i think done subtle look nice, quirky but still professional. Personally, I don't think all over bright colours is a professional image but if she's allowed in her staff dress code then that's her choice.

I wouldn't change decisions about children off the back of it though.
I can wear nail varnish at school. Student's can't.
I can wear earrings at school. Students can't.
That's life. I can't be doing with arguments 'but it's not fair because the teachers wear...' Nobody ever says 'Mrs Pops. It's not fair that you wear pencil skirt and blouse most days. I should be able to. But they do say it's not fair that I can wear nail varnish'.

Who cares?

And no, teachers should not be subject to the same uniform regs as children, before people moan about that. They’re teachers, children are pupils, there’s a difference, that’s how life works, deal with it

What difference do you think it will have on your child's life?

If her hair was blonde do you think she'd be a better teacher?

Report
Tomorrowillbeachicken · 06/09/2018 21:03

Really, does it matter? And if it does to you, why does it matter?

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 06/09/2018 21:04

Last time I checked your ability to teach was not affected by your hair colour. Bet the kids think she ( or maybe he?) Is awesome

Report
GreenTulips · 06/09/2018 21:04

Why don't you ask her to change her hair colour to suit your taste? Perhaps a few fashion tips aswell while your at it? You could maybe take her shopping at M&S for some formal ALine skirts and high necked blouses?

I think it’s cool. But then my school has a very relaxed practical and accessible to all uniform policy.

Report
turquoisegreenblue · 06/09/2018 21:07

I don’t think it’s on if students aren’t allowed it.

How appalling. Going to the dogs I tell you, going to the dogs.
