How is Sherborne House School Eastleigh?

Hi, I am relocating to Southampton and considering Sherborne House school for my daughter.
Any review on this school?

My daughter will be in year3 from next term. Have searched for other independent schools in Southampton - Gregg, St Mary, but not satisfied with those. Sherborne looked better then these independent schools in Southampton. any other reviews please?

I don’t know it personally but have friends with children there all pretty happy. Are you living in Chandlers Ford or will you have to commute?

One thing to consider myschool and local posters will have a better idea - is that the stretch of motorway between Chandlers Ford and Southampton can be very very congested. So depending on your working day & school times , it might be worth checking out. Sorry that is not a helpful post re Sherborne House but just a practical point.

There are many excellent state schools nearby (which probably means the independent sector doesn’t try so hard? I don’t know, not an expert) but Stroud School at Romsey might be worth a look too.

Thanks Jenijena, agree with your point of good state schools. Only thing is I don't think would be able to get admission at this time in an OUTSTANDING rated school. That's why thinking to start with independent school.

If you are not wedded to independent for the future , Thornden School ( quite a bit of chandlers ford is in catchment - you would need to check map ) is reputedly an excellent school. My PILS used to live there ( we don't so can only speak by reputation) and when my FIL unfortunately died house sold to a couple who wanted to be in catchment area for their children. - Sorry again not quite answering your question but I believe certainly for secondary age children Thornden is very good. So if you get settled in the catchment area that would be a very very nice option.

The state schools in that area are generally pretty good.
If you move into catchment you'll get a place, just not right away.

Sherborne House is fine. Its part of a chain.
Stroud is now part of KES
None of the private primaries are selective - as the state schools are on their patch

Talkin - am I right though ? I think Thornden is a good school. I have never had children there , and DH's parent move dot Chadlers Ford after he left home - so he didn't go either . I just know that when we had to sell my deceased FIL's house a couple of years ago - all the eA details ( even though the house was a bit run down ) mentioned "Thornden school catchment " So whilst there are a fair few private 2ndary schools on offer in the Winchester / CF / Southampton area - Thornden is a pretty good option ( am I right? ) I do realise OP this is a bit beyond what you are thinking of , but time does pass quite quickly & moving house is expensive. But do check out the commute from Chandlers Ford to Southampton - it can be gruesome at certain times of day.

You’re right, Thornden houses attract a huge premium. CF- Southampton commute can be a bit stinky but frankly any road going into Southampton will be and plenty do it.

OP, if state schools aren’t a complete no go, I’d be tempted to ring round and see what the lists are. I’ve friends who’ve got into outstanding schools in Romsey at CF after moving there, so not an impossibility.

Thornden is a true comp - if you live in the catchment you'll get in - no testing no stress
BUT
its in a rich area and is in the virtuous cycle of motivated parents move there for good schooling
so yes, it beats the vast bulk of private and selective schools in raw exam results.

As with all Hampshire Comps, it stops at 16
and then the kids have the option of Peter Symonds in Winchester or Barton Peverill in Eastleigh - both of which sewnd hundreds of kids to good Unis as well as supporting every other academic range.

The Romsey schools are pretty good, the Winchester schools are very good, the schools to the East (Hedge End, Fair Oak, Botley way) are good.
In fact anything outside the Southampton Boundary is OK at secondary.

For Primary, the schools reflect their areas as there are no selective state schools in Hampshire

Private schools take those who are allergic to state and those whose parents think they would get lost at state
but academically there is no difference between the two sectors

Talkin - that is sort of what I was saying - my FIL's house ( nothing special, not one of the more glamorous houses by a very very long chalk really not , but in Thornden catchment ) was bought by a young couple who wanted to be in the catchment and were prepared to put in the work to bring FIL's house up to a decent spec. Walking distance to the school. So yes - I see your point - motivated parents.

& yes BP & PS accessible from Chandlers Ford quite easily.
If only Dh's parents had moved there when he was younger
