Have we got the balance right re DS party?

Class of 31. 14 boys including DS. 17 girls.

He wants to invite all the boys and 4 girls. So 18 total including DS

It isn't a cost issue, the organisation stipulated 18 DCs max. I would gladly invite the whole class otherwise. Also DS really wants this particular organisation.

Does that sound ok? It is just over half the class. I really don't want to get this wrong as DS has had friendship issues with some of the boys over the last 18 months which seem to have really settled and the girls he is inviting are the ones who really supported him Smile

He is Y4 btw. The invite list is entirely his choice

(The friendship issues were a bit of exclusion by the other boys and DS not really fitting in. All seems to be settled down now as the friendships are fluid)

It’s his party invite who he wants there!

It is fine. Girls do not always expect to go to boy's parties. All the boys are being included and it is holding out an olive branch to the boys where there has been difficulties whichis a good move. Usually a few cannot attend, so you will probably end up with a smaller number.

We never invited the whole class. Some children only ever invited three friends - eg to the cinema. You can do what you wish and half the class is generous.

Seems a lot of people to a party, at that age, but if that's what you want and can afford and organise, and those are the people he wants, then that's fine. His birthday, his guestlist.

@karigan1 yes I know, but I have had 18 months of helping DS get through some fruendship issues that I don't want to end up causing others.

@bubblesbuddy @backforgood I agree the amount of DCs is generous, but the activity lends itself to that many and it would cost the same whether 1 or 18 attend.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I just wanted to sound it out. He has done cinema trips with 3 in the past, I reckon this is the last of his big parties Grin

Wouldn't bother me - but someone did approach me the other day as their child wants all the boys at their birthday party and just a few of the girls, of which mine is one - and they wanted to check who she got on with so she didn't feel lonely or isolated in a very boy heavy party.

With my daughter - that's not a problem - she's magnetically attracted to all the boys in the class and doesn't get on at all with the girls (they're collectively very cliquey and not kind to her)... I'm dreading the teenage years if the total boy attraction continues!

Yes rainbow the girls he has chosen are great and I wouldn't need to ask the parents if they needed 'company'. As I say these girls are lovely and all made a point of including DS when they spotted him feeling a little isolated, so I was really pleased when he chose them for his party (they are also in different friendship groups to eachother)
