Private Primary School in Twickenham / Hampton

Any recommendation for a good private primary school in Twickenham/ Hampton ?

I have secured a place at Twickenham Prep School but Would love some feedback .

Also, what other school would you recommend ?

I know a few people with children at Twickenham Prep. I can't help with any specifics, but they have all been really happy there. Other friends speak highly of Newland House, but my impression is of a very different vibe there - that could just be less laid back parents though!

Have you looked at Jack and Jill? Feeds to LEH juniors or has a new Prep in Hampton Hill. Otherwise St Catherine's/Old Vicarage in Richmond/Staines Prep plus preps over the river near Surbiton/Kingston. Overall the state schools in Rich/Twickenham are very good and a lot people don't go private before 11, LEH having 2 form entry at 7 slightly distorts the area too.

Newland House is good with quirky kids, and it's not massively pressurised.

I had children at TPS and another local prep and preferred TPS. Its very inclusive, the children all get to be in plays, sing, sports, swimming ... All children will receive a certificate at some point to show something special about themselves and this helps hugely with confidence and self esteem, particularly if they aren't standout at sport, drama etc..

Academically it is fine, but as with most of the local preps, you need to put a lot of work in yourself to pass into secondary schools. There is one poor maths teacher who covers a lot of 11+ and really lets them down.

They are very responsive to parents and suggestions and happily add clubs etc.. It progressed a lot over the years we were there.

sorry but WHY oh why would you pay for TPS over the excellent state primaries if you have to do a lot of work yourself to get into the secondaries?

Unfortunately we don’t have good primary shools where we are hence why we are applying for private ones.

TPS seems to be a bit of a marmite school. A few people have found the strong Christian ethos a little more dominant than they were expecting. J&J was the school to bank for a route to LEH at 7 (and then you are in for good - no 11+ required) but now it has its own site for 7-11 it seems less popular . Newland House seems to be the current school de jour now. The junior head Mrs C has an excellent reputation. The state primary schools are all excellent too of course. And there is Waldegrave for girls at 11. There are so many great schools in the area it’s hard to go wrong tbh.

I agree there are lot of good schools around , however not in my catchement therefore I have to go Private .

I have read a lot of good things about TPS and I really liked the school when I visited . I wanted to have an insight from local mums so thank you for all your feedback so far .
