History books for kids

Our y2 ds asks endless questions about history ( and also about politics, geography and science). My knowledge seems to be very limited ( currently discussing conflict in Korea...)
Can you please recommend some history books or any other but good quality, ideally with pictures? Don't really want him to use the internet as he will switch to Minecraft:)
He has got Osborne enciclopedias - they are great.
Horrible histories do not seem to catch him yet.

I bought a large history encyclopedia: Kingfisher was the best rated when we were buying over 10 years ago. I checked the style also and liked the layout.

It's been one of the best books we bought tbh. I look up some topics I have no background on and it gives me a basic idea.

At this stage you would be reading it and interpreting it together but it will last as a resource.

The bookpeople have some good history collections and The History Book and Big History

Then HH should be ok. You can always read them with him. That's what I do with my y2 but we do a lot of history related stuff as its my discipline and both his older brothers are also into history. Has he seen the sketch show? Or even HH Gory Games. We also watch adult docs, there have been some really accessible ones over the last year, 1066 with Janina Ramirez and Dan Jones was loved as was The Great Fire. Books about cities also tend to go down well here. So, history of Cheltenham or similar, lots of pictures and understandable explanations. Costume drama too, we have previously watches The Musketeers (s1 is the best) and Merlin and that sparks discussion. We also do a lot of history visiting and just chat.

Do you have an archive or anything local? We regularly visit an archive for their family activities which are fantastic.

What about the DK Eyewitness books? Lots of topics covered and they are great for dipping in and out of.

It's been around for a while but it is utterly fab, very accessible for all age groups and really encourages them to pick it up and just start browsing through this and that.

History Hero’s cards are great
I have also bought various box set books from The Book People.
My DC have loved picking them up and reading through them

We've got the "you wouldn't want to be.." series and DS dips into it fairly often. Lots of illustrations and good at depicting how life is like at different time periods. Very well priced from the Book People.

A Street Through Time is fantastic. My 6 year old can lose hours in that book.

Stephen Biesty’s books are full of amazing cross section illustrations. I think most are out of print but you can probably get 2nd hand copies on Amazon.
