Hi can anybody help? I have read great reports about the C of E school in Nomansland, namely it was awarded an 'outstanding grade' by Ofsted. However its recent SAT results are well below average. It worries me as a young relative of mine is at the school. Can someone who knows the school give me some feedback and peace of mind.

Sats results are not the only judgement Ofsted make about a school. It is all about progress, leadership of the Head and teaching quality. Plus other things. To get the results they did could have meant the children made outstanding progress. It could mean that one year was below their normal attainment level because there were lots of SEN children who did not reach the Sats score of 100. They could have got 99!

If it was outstanding some years ago, it may not get it again, but if it was a recent inspection, it will be an excellent school. A single year’s Sats results are not, by themselves, an indication of anything and certainly not worth worrying about. It’s progrrss the children make that is key and they only do that with high quality teaching.

Nomansland is an area where due to changes in housebuilding and demographics in the outlying villages - on both sides of the border - things can change quickly.

You need to ask if you are a stakeholder

I am a grandparent who is trying not appear too fussed.
I have offered the same advice as I too am a teacher: ie it may just be a fluke, a group with lots of Sen children , but having looked at the information in the public domain, when I have tracked this groups achievements so far , they have never been this low. You are correct we should really ask direct, but perhaps its a case of not wanting to rock the boat or appear critical.

How did you track the progress of this group of children? Do you have access to the schools assessment records? Or are you talking about previous cohorts which have nothing to do with the one that just left? Nothing at all.

Tbh the ofsted will be eight year old this year. I’d take it with a handful of salt.

they are happy
statistics are your enemy here
the ofsted is old and I'm sure as a grandparent you are aware of the pull between the two counties on the kids

focus on the real outcomes rather than the politically skewed ofsted
