Writing sample - how old is this child?

I’d be really grateful if you could say how old you think the child who wrote this is?

The task was the children were shown a photo on the whiteboard and told to write a description of what they could see.

I think the child may need some additional support, but I’d be grateful for feedback from other teachers/parents.

Thank you

Maybe about 6? The handwriting's not great but the spelling is better than either of mine at 6, so maybe a bit older?

I’d say year two, so 6/7. I’m parent not a teacher, though...

A child in Year 4 who's behind national expectations for writing.

Six or seven (and the additional support I'd give is lined paper, it looks fine apart from the writing creeping all over the page)

I would have guessed around 6 / Y2 as well but that is just based on what I have seen of Y1.

Are you the parent of this child? Who the hell do you think you are if you not - posting this child's work online.

I'd say 6-7 too.

I'd guess lower ability year 2.

The handwriting is not great and neither is the spelling. However, the vocabulary and content seems more advanced than the handwriting suggests so I would guess year 3 at least. Especially given your comment about needing additional support.

@dinex

Of course it's the poster's dc. Your comment is a bit mad!

I think older than most have said. The sentence structure seems better than my (better than average but not genius) yr 2 dd although the handwriting isn’t. The spelling isn’t great but I could understand 95% of those words.

So I’d say yr 3, 7 yo.

Disclaimer - I’m not a teacher or have experience of children other than my own!

7/8? The describing is good-I like the mentioning what they can't see as well as what they can.....

my childs writing was like that in y3
He had additional support as his writing wasn't very good
But lines really would have improved that example

Are you asking about your child's handwriting?

Mine wrote like that at the end of infant school. So age 6/7? Year 2 of school.

8 (similar to my 8yo spelling and style although she's not quite hitting targets)

It looks like year 2 or someone working at that level.
