Brown school shoes for 4yo

whyareusernamessodifficult · 05/08/2017 17:50

Ds is going into Reception after the summer and his school uniform requires brown leather shoes that lace up or buckle.
He's a size 9 and so far the only brown shoes I've been able to find in his size are velcro.
Any suggestions?

These?

Many independent shoe shops, or places like Trotters will sell them. Often under the 'sandals' heading, for the buckle version.

If you are on London, go to the school wear section in John Lewis or Harrods.

Why on earth would they specify buckles or laces?! Nightmare for the teachers

Those would be great but they only come in large sizes.
We've tried Harrods and John Lewis with no luck but we've only tried online.
I haven't heard of Trotters so I'll give them a look and I'll have a look and see if there are any independent shoe shops in our area.

Doesn't the school (presume independent if they're specifying brown shoes!) recommend a local shoe shop on the uniform list. I wouldn't expect it to if they wanted normal black shoes but if it's anything more unusual, I'd have thought they would tell you to try X or Y shops.

I think the L means a size 27, so not toddler, but primary age size 9.

Otherwise it would be a men's size 9, and I'm not sure that's the target market for Start rite. Grin

Is there anyway of contacting the school or parents of older children for suggestions where to get shoes from e.g. does the school have Facebook page?

Mary He wouldn't be allowed the top ones as they have to have a dark sole but the second pair look really good Grin

Demented I know! We've luckily managed to teach him to do his laces pretty early but I can't imagine all the parents have the time to teach a 4yo to tie laces

GU It didn't say anything on the uniform list but I might contact the school and see if they have any recommendations

Some of the lace ups people have posted look like they would suit a pensioner named Desmond. Grin

I was thinking for high school aged boys but I'll have a look and see if I can see a size chart on their website

I looked at Trotter. The only appropriate ones start at size 11 but it looked like they had loads of other cute stuff there so I'll need to have another look next time I'm having a shopping spree

I agree Trotters is a good place to look

Just realised Hunkle's shoes are actually fastened by Velcro. Are they not allowed Velcro at all?

These are cute they also do them in a lighter brown

Ach! they are the same as already posted! Must be a good choice ;-). We buy our school shoes from Chipmunks. They last well and if anything are on the generous side.

Ah I didn't notice the velcro on the chipmunks ones 😧
I don't know wether they's be allowed or not??
Dh gets home tomorrow so I'll keep looking and see what he thinks when he gets back

No chance is a 4 year old going to be able to cope with laces / buckles. The school is insane.

I work in an independent school. Uniform regs pretty strict. Those buckle/Velcro shoes would be fine. Honestly :) they look super smart and suitable for a 4 year old. His teacher won't bat an eyelid with those.

Have a look on the Cool Boys Shoes website, they do lovely brown school shoes. My DS has to have navy which is equally difficult to find and someone recommended them to me a few years ago. They are no more expensive than Clarks and they last amazingly well. DS has their Fergus ones with the buckles and they look really nice on.

Don't know if you're still looking, but I was just looking at Happy Little Soles for school shoes and spotted a few in size 9 (my about to be Y2 dd wears that size) in brown - some aren't suitable but some might be. These are all the brown ones, ignore the sandals
