I can't help my DD on this puzzle question. Can someone help please?

Cut the square into the remaining quarters. Cut those quarters into quarters.

Sorry, posted too soon. This makes 12 small squares.
12 is divisible by four. So each bit is three squares big.

Yes, agree. Cut each 1/4 square into 4 pieces.
each 3/4 of smaller squares are equal size.(3/16 from large square.

3/4 divide by 4 = 3/16 , I think.

Try googling "how to divide an l shape into 4 equal parts". There are some images which might help.

How do you arrange those 4 groups of 3 squares to make them identical? I have an urge to get some paper and scissors

JustEatYourDinner Wed 22-Feb-17 18:33:59

Like this

You need to find a pattern which uses 3/4 of a square(a square being the small one)

I think a series of L shapes would work

JustEatYourDinner Wed 22-Feb-17 18:36:02

Sorry after playing around...

Jennie1978 Wed 22-Feb-17 18:36:57

Yes, I agree. Use a ruler to draw the other 3 quarters then dived each quarter into 4. This makes 12 smaller square. 12 is divisible by 4 so each equal part will be 3 small squares. She could colour each 3 in a different colour to make it clear.

But those aren't identical. One is straight and three are L shaped.

Ignore me...my eyes. I've just looked again.

Ahh...you put a second picture up

JustEatYourDinner Wed 22-Feb-17 18:39:32

It is a rubbish pic, sorry! Sitting in a darkened corner of the room!

JustEatYourDinner Wed 22-Feb-17 18:40:30

I can get the colourd out if you like?

RebelRogue Wed 22-Feb-17 18:42:11

RebelRogue Wed 22-Feb-17 18:42:59

Oops a bit late to the party. My bad for playing with all the coloured pens

JustEatYourDinner Wed 22-Feb-17 18:43:38

Better?

Apples11 Wed 22-Feb-17 18:44:19

Thanks all, my OH just worked it out and agree, 4 L shapes.
