Moving from rented to bought in between applying for primary and starting - diff catchments

We'll most probably be renting when we have to apply for ds primary so we could rent in chosen school catchment. However we'll have bought by the time he actually starts. Would we have to make sure we buy within catchment or could we then buy outside? Or does it depend on each lea?
Thanks am v confused!

In general the LA cannot take away a place just because you move out of catchment. However, the LA can take away a place if they think your application was fraudulent or deliberately misleading. In the situation you describe that could happen, especially if you own a property in addition to the property you are renting. In that case the LA could choose to use the address of the property you own when deciding whether to offer you a place at your preferred primary.

Talk to the LA. Tell them what you are doing and your reasons. Make sure you get their responses in writing. If they say anything significant in a telephone conversation, follow up with an email setting out your understanding of what was said. That way, if they treat your application differently from the way they said they would, you will have evidence you can use at appeal.

prh47bridge knows better than I do about it, but we were in a similar position when we were applying for primary schools. Just read (and re-read) the admissions policies for the schools and also for the LEA. For us, they would only consider the rented address as our permanent address is the tenancy was for a period of at least 12 months and we could demonstrate disposal of our previous property (we had to submit a copy of the tenancy and completion statement from sale of house, together with all the normal docs when we accepted the places we were offered).
