Moving from private prep to different secondary

Our son is currently at a south London, selective, independent school (year 4) which potentially goes all the way through to 18.

His current school is one of the most expensive in the area. When we initially placed him there, we intended to allow him to stay until 18 however our finances have changed and we are consequentially looking at slightly cheaper selectives, for the 11+ transfer.

I wondered if anyone has experience of this and how the current school could respond eg do heads become quite upset if you apply for other schools?

We are aware he may not pass the entrance for another selective and wondered how often children do not get offered a secondary place with the current school if applications are made to others?

They are running a business, you are a customer, nothing about this is personal, no of course they won't want him to leave, they want your money, yes of course they will take him back if they have a space, they want your money.

Hi by South London do you mean the Croydon area? If you are able to name the school or at least the area people with knowledge of that specific school or area will likely be able to offer more tailored advice...
