I've asked around, no one can recommend one. Where else can I find a private tutor for my DD8 please?

you need a website like firsttutors - NO ONE will give you the name of a good tutor!

The2Ateam Wed 03-Aug-16 17:13:11

Lol! Why?

Just resurrecting this thread for more advice... Would you use a tutor te commended in here that is not a teacher?

Perplexedicom Wed 07-Sep-16 16:09:52

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but if you're asking whether I'd use a tutor who's never even been a tutor, I'd probably not. That being said, if I could find nobody else and the tutor had a good track record, I'd try her/ him. Tutoring is v much about having the ability to form a rapport with the pupil. Someone who's not started as a teacher may have a different manner.

The woman that has been recommended to me has never worked as a school teacher, but is a tutor specialising in 11+ preparation. I just assumed all tutors were previously or currently teachers, if that makes sense?

I have a friend who is a tutor but has never been a teacher - he still gets great results. He's in Finsbury Park though so a bit far for you.

Thanks Crucru. It's my first venture into this so I am totally clueless!

I meant, a tutor who's never been a teacher.
