A not so stealth boast!

Can I please just have a little boast about my DD.

She was practically illiterate at the beginning of year 5. Really struggling due to dyslexia. We were getting nowhere fast with the school really, despite them doing their best, resources and understanding of her condition were scant. As a result of this we got her tuition and were lucky enough to secure a charitable grant to help pay for this alongside touch typing lessons.

I have just received her year six school report and SATs scores - now I know that actually SATs matter not one tiny fuck in the grand scheme of things and judging by the explanatory note accompanying them, were pretty much a clusterfuck this year.

BUT!!!!

My little girl only just missed the standard level in grammar, spelling and punctuation, this was because her spelling score skewed it greatly, otherwise she would have exceeded. She scored ABOVE the standard for reading and just missed the maths.

This is a little girl who was struggling with reception level reading going into year 5. She has worked and worked at her reading and her determination has floored me. She reads every night to DP and reads herself to sleep.

She has received the highest level of effort grades and I am so so proud of her. The only concession she received in her SATs was 20% extra time, which frankly would not have made any difference.

I may have cried!!!

Thank you - she is amazing :) I honestly despaired of her ever being able to read and she once told me the same, that she wouldn't be able to read and that she was stupid! A hard to hear from a 8 year old. The difference in her is staggering! This was not in a small way down to her tutor who has changed DD's life but DD herself and her determination not to let it beat her.

She will always struggle but she wont let dyslexia win!

Fantastic. And more importantly, she now has the support, skills and attitude to sail through secondary school.

I remember your posts about your DD when she was younger. (I've namechanged since then).

It's fantastic to hear that she's made so much progress. She's an amazing girl and you must be so proud of her. Star

Wow that's so encouraging. We are struggling to find a tutor for our dyslexic twins as they go into year 6 next year. Also worried about the financial implications as the tutor is so expensive.
OP can I ask a couple of questions please?
Would you say the expense of a tutor is truly worth it?
How did you find your tutor. Was it via PATOSS?

great result for her, the truly important thing is that she now will have more confidence in her ability AND through her hard work she must have an amazing determination and work ethic which will be invaluable to her in the future.

Lovely!

"She has worked and worked at her reading and her determination has floored me. "

She will do well in life with that sort of attitude, bless her cotton socks.
