former best friend being horrible

Ds has sn - physical disabilities and on the spectrum. Nearly 10 but behaves like a much younger child. In year 2 and 3 he was best buddies with a boy, we often had him round etc. then this boy grew away from ds - fair enough. But now whenever ds goes near him this boy will say "I'll count to 5, if you don't leave me alone by then I'll tell the teacher." Ds hasn't formed any other close friendships and is upset and bewildered that this boy who he used to be so close to treats him this way now. I know friendships can't be forced, but should I say anything to the school? I must admit it breaks my heart.

Oh that's so upsetting. I would chat to the school to see if there is any extra support they can offer your DS with friendships xx

Would you speak to the parents?

I would speak to school - to the SENCO, the class teacher and possibly the Head. This is unacceptable behaviour, I always tell my children that they don't have to be friends or play with with people they don't want to but they mustn't be unkind and this boy certainly is being.
It may be that they need to help your DS develop other friendships but they need to know it is going on, Regardless of any SN every child in school deserves to be treated kindly and to be helped if they are finding play times or friendships difficult

Do you mean call a meeting or have chats?

I'd start with the the class teacher moving on swiftly to SENCO and eventually HT if the situation wasn't improved very quickly, start with a chat but document everything and if you feel they're not taking you seriously then call it as a meeting with all three stating exactly why, if you still feel that they are not being helpful then you move onto the Chair of Governors.
