I think that a lot of the current year 6 will not reach expected standards. They have been taught the old curriculum and being tested on the new curriculum. The poor things are being set up for failure.

The current Y5 will retake in Y7 if they fail to meet expected standards.

Not this year, next year.
If they dont pass in Jan, they do it again in May FFS.

So if they don't pass in y6, they do it again in Jan? And then if they don't pass again they do it in May?

HE is looking more and more attractive.

Will they still have to do CATS in Y7?

Realistically, though, they will be used to doing lots of fairly formal assessments in secondary. Our's do, for internal assessment purposes. So to them, the 'resits' should not feel vastly different.

I think CATS are optional anyway, they are up to the school. If a school do them then they probably still will as only some children will re-take KS2 tests.

Our's did CATs in Year 7 in order to establish individual targets.

Cats are up to secondary school. Not a national requirement. Secondary schools will still do them as they don't know yet what the new ks2 stuff means in terms of progress.

Does anyone know whether the stuff being crammed into children for these Year 6 SATs is actually used in Secondary?

I'm mostly talking about all this grammar that they have to learn. The official names for everything etc.
