Hi!

My yr2 son needs to find a poem to learn for school. Does anyone know any good ones? Anything school-friendly but with a cheeky edge would I'm sure go down well!

Thank you!!

My year 3 DD just learned Spike Milligan's Ning Nang Nong for school. It's silly, not too long and the nonsense words make it fun to say.

My ds loves Ning Nang Nong too!
They have lots of videos on you tube, so dc can learn to say with really good expressions.

www.hiddentreasuresofcolorado.com/computer.html

The computer swallowed grandma.
Yes, honestly its true!
She pressed ‘control’ and ‘enter’
And disappeared from view.

It devoured her completely,
The thought just makes me squirm.
She must have caught a virus
Or been eaten by a worm.

I’ve searched through the recycle bin
And files of every kind;
I’ve even used the Internet,
But nothing did I find.

In desperation, I asked Jeeves
My searches to refine.
The reply from him was negative,
Not a thing was found ‘online.’

So, if inside your ‘Inbox,’
My Grandma you should see,
Please ‘Copy,”Scan’ and ‘Paste’ her
And send her back to me.

I love this but not sure whether it might be tricky for a year 2 but just wanted to share.

Have a look at Kenn Nesbitt's poems here - lots of short funny poems that suit this age group.

My son learnt this in yr2 - funny, and short so easy to remember... class giggled too:

I made myself a snowball
As perfect as could be
I thought I'd keep it as a pet
And let it sleep with me
I made it some pyjamas
And a pillow for its head
Then last night it ran away
But first... it wet the bed!

Ah-ha. In that case I better not pick any of these poems - just in case our DC are competitors Grin. DD hates the poetry almost as much as the cross country so I need to find something super cheeky to get her to do it.
