Am I being the opposite of precious with my second-born?

My y5 daughter has been invited to attend a masterclass during school hours for six sessions over the next few months. The masterclass is open to a maximum of three children in yr5 and is held at another local school around 15 minutes away. All well and good.

Unfortunately, we've been asked to provide our own transport. Which would mean taking at least an hour out of my working day on six different occasions. Is it reasonable of the school to expect this? Or would it be unreasonable of me to refuse the opportunity because I simply cannot take the time out to ferry her around the countryside?

Why not approach the other parents and see if you can all do 2 days each?

If it's during school hours, I would've thought that the school would arrange transport. When our school holds an activity elsewhere for a small group, they usually go by taxi.

I can approach the other parents, yes. But I don't know who else is going and the school are not saying anything. And they want the consent forms back on Monday!

We've been explicitly told that transport is our responsibility. I guess they can't spare a teacher for the benefit of three children.

I would just email the school and ask them to pass a message on to the other two sets of parents asking to share lifts. Then hopefully they'll get back to you before Monday. Can you accept the place initially and then pull out if you really can't make it work? I sympathise, my DCs seem to have hobbies taking them all over south London at the moment!

Dependng on where, and finances, you could maybe even all club together for a mini cab?
