Ask what you want to know. If they can tell you they will.

I tend to ask "is she happy? Is she enjoying school? Do you have any concerns". That's mainly it.

I'd also add how can we support her at home?

Is there anything you are worried about?

In year 1 my biggest concern is. "Is she happy, does she have good friends".

I tend to look at some work and ask specifics: Is her writing as good as it should be? Does she write enough? How is the spelling? What is she working at rght now? (Extend sentences? Joined up writing?) What is the next step? Same for maths.

Ask them what you can do at home, ours are quite specific when asked (Use conjunctions, practise times tables and answer questions about texts etc)

Same for social questions, is she happy in the dining hall, does she play with others, how does she work in a group...
