Prep schools - Sevenoaks/Hildenborough/Tonbridge

I'm just looking at prep schools for my two little boys (6 months and nearly 3 years old). We're hoping that with a strong primary education they will pass the 11+ and get into one of the local grammars (wishful thinking?!). We really liked Russell House in Otford (very warm friendly feel and not too big) but it's perhaps the wrong side of Sevenoaks for us (we're in between Sevenoaks and Tonbridge). Really like the look of Hilden Oaks in Tonbridge and was just wondering if anyone had any feedback? I understand a new headteacher is joining in September. TIA Smile

Hi, if you're looking for grammar at secondary can really recommend RH, it has a fantastic 11+ record and as it finishes at 11 there's no incentive for the school to try and keep children for CE at 13! Both my children have been there since they were 2 and have thrived - they had a new head a couple of years ago and it has gone from strength to strength.Good luck finding somewhere!

Thank you. I've heard very good things about RH. My only hesitation is before and after school care and the lack of holiday clubs. My OH and I both work so unfortunately it is also an important consideration. Part of the attraction of HO is that it also only goes up to 11 but has good after school and holiday clubs. Any RH experience from this perspective? Thank you!

Have you looked at new beacon, Sevenoaks prep and solefields? Solefields is supposed to be lovely and had great results.

Solefields looks good but wanting co-ed. Sevenoaks Prep is already full for my eldest's intake. Quite attracted to prep schools that go up to 11 (such as Russell House or Hilden Oaks) rather than 13 as hoping that means teaching is in part focused towards the 11+ rather than CE.

We both work full time and RH does offer before and after care. It opens at 7.45 and there's no change for dropping off early. There's an after school club which runs until 6pm which is very reasonable - I'm not sure if it's available for the the 2 and 3 year olds though. There didn't used to be much wrap around care but they're slowly catching up and it's definitely improved!

Have you looked at Fosse Bank in Hildenborough? It's 2.5 to 11 years with good 11+ results and wraparound care. My children are very happy there.
