When is it usual for you to find out what teacher your child will have next year

Is the first week after half term too early to be told which teacher your child will have in September or would you expect it nearer the beginning of July

In my school (primary teacher) and all my teacher friends it's generally the second to last week of term in a newsletter. Teachers normally find out around now. Things change so quickly sometimes I think they're wary of telling parents/children too early.

We normally find out a week or so before the end of term? Long enough for classes to go up and see their new teacher, not long enough for them to switch off with the old one before the end of term!

Usually the beginning of July when all the children have induction days into their new schools.

1st week back is definitely too early - teachers and TAs could have handed in their notice in the last week before half-term, which means heads spending half-term rejigging their staff deployment for the following year.

I don't even know which year group I'll be teaching in yet let alone which class I'll have.

Definitely too early straight after half term. Some staff may have resigned and the school will need to advertise and interview over the next month or so. Once they've made appointments they'll be able to finalise who goes where in September.

That's what I thought but we have already been given the name of DD's new YR 1 teacher for September last week

I'm a teacher and I have no idea who I will be teaching next year.

We normally get told by the headteacher in the last few days of June, the week before the transition days. Then the children get told (dramatically) the day before the visit day.

In primary when I was little, when there were no visit days, I remember it being called out on the last assembly of the year, so you knew which class you were in come September.

Why should you be worried?! Either it'll be that teacher or someone else...they are obviously fairly confident that teacher will be there in sept and is the best one for year 1 would be my guess.

We have a move-up day about a week before the end of term, and the pupils are told the day before.

It was all very last-minute at the DC's primary - maybe a week before the end of term at the most.

Last newsletter of the year, about a week before end of term when we find out the new class names and which class is going where.

We were told 3 weeks ago by email. We also have a transition meeting at the end of this month.

Ours schedule it in the terms 'events' so check your timetable in case yours do too.

We find out at the end of June. The classes are muddled too for us (YR to Y1 that is), so the children and adults have a big 'reveal'.

For us, last day of term. Children would go and meet new teacher on last day, and then we would find out at home time.

for most of the school it is usually last 2 weeks of term.

But our reception class has an induction evening in May and the new parents and kids are told who their reception teacher will be. That is in May.

This year it was the news that it was NOT the current reception teacher, which is how everyone found out that she is leaving.

Half term is that last time for teachers to hand in their notice, so no school is absolutely certain who will leave until that date has passed.

The school where I work tell them on move up day; 1st July as it coincides with the Year 6 going up for their transition visit to their secondary schools.

DC3 (infant school) will be told on 13th July - the date is on the school calendar. They move up for the morning with their new teacher.

DC2 is in the Juniors. They usually get told the second to last day of term.

Late June for us, though I've been told none of the 3 Y2 teachers had mentioned plans to leave earlier this term, and apparently they seem quite happy doing Y2, so should be one of them (two I know are excellent and know ds and the other I'm told is good too).

Much better than in my day when you found out each term on the first day if you'd moved up a class or not.

Teachers must resign by 31 May. Therefore the Head would almost certainly know before that date if they had interviews for a new job or were retiring. If the school is quite small and everything well organised there is no particular reason why a Head could not make teaching decisions immediately after half term. It seems early though. TA's only give 1 month's notice though. Usually it tends to July and sometimes Heads do negotiate with staff if a particular class might be a bit tricky!

WE usually get told the last week in July - we get a slip telling us in the envelope the school reports come in.

In Primary the new P1 teachers were revealed the Friday before the end of term at induction. The rest of the teachers were formally announced in a newsletter either that day or the following Monday.

ours find out in the 2nd last week of term. They have a 'meet the teacher' day and spend a day in their new class with the new teacher

We get our reports about 2 days before the end of term with a slip showing who the new teacher is.
