Hi,

My ds has sat UCS and Habs, but I could not get much out of him. Has your ds sat those exams? Do you know what they did? My Ds did not answer quite a few questions at Habs, is there any hope of him getting in anyway if he has done the rest well? Please let me know, I really appreciate it.

Mine sat Habs 7+ today. As usual it is like getting blood from a stone. He will not tell me anything about it. He has Highate tomorrow!

Same here, very stressful. Would love to know a bit more about what they actually did at Habs. Anybody else who has a more talkative child?

The only thing he said about Highate was that it was easier than Habs. Normally he doesn't stop talking!

Yes apparently it was easier but I also heard that there were 500 children for Highgate, 35 of which are siblings. This is really tough

Crap! Didn't realise the odds were so bad at Highgate. Oh well... Not holding my breath.

How many places are there? How many come from the pre-prep?
Only asking because my daughter's three best friends are trying and I don't really want them to abandon her (we're not going for it)

20 boys and 20 girls and there were 500 children, so the probability of getting in is not very high...

Hi all, I am going crazy here. Has anybody received an email from Habs boys yet? I know they said not to call but I am tempted to.

Thanks Frank. Would you mind letting me know? I don't have much hope I don't think my ds did too well, but still I can't bear the wait any more. I will post as soon as I receive it ( if I do)

We only sat Highgate. DD said:

  • math was a bit tricky. 6x tables
  • story title "animal contest"
  • comprehension - some kind of fairy tail

Go figure! Loved the snack though lol

hi mums

have just had a heart attack having been told that at highgate there is a sibling and teacher pile and an external student pile...and that there are over 350+ applications and that both siblings and teacher's kids get priority. Is this true?

I think Highgate give priority to siblings and children of old boys. Haven't heard about children of teachers.

Highgate give little weight (afaik) to siblings and alumni children - I think it's one of those all-things-being-equal influences.

However they give very strong preference to teachers' children from what I gather. If the child 'passes' the test, they get a place whereas for other candidates it's a competitive exam rather than a pass-fail exam.

Which completely stands to reason, since it's much more important to them to retain good teachers than it is to be nice to existing parents who are unlikely to remove their child in the circumstances.

However, I dare say at 7 (when academic ability is far less easy to measure), the sibling allowance is more generous than at 11.

Hi

My son got his 7+ admission letters today.

He is on the reserve list on Habs, Highgate and UCS!!! I dont know what to make out of this. Are there any chances of him getting selected from the waiting list? Anyone else in the same boat?

Its not a good feeling at all!!!

Highgate does not give preference to siblings.

SummitLove · 28/01/2017 14:16

Sam - we know one person (a sibling) who was on the reserve list and was offered a 7+ place in April.

We have got an offer from UCS and Habs and on waiting list at Highgate. We really wanted Highgate (close to our place and good mixture of everything) so this has left us very confused.

Habs is very far from where we stay and high pressure whereas UCS is a bit laid-back though close to where we stay. Really confused as what to do. Our son is very bright but he is not very studious. Any help/advice would be highly appreciated.

Thank you SummitLove, & Infopls for your inputs....its just a waiting game now.

Siyababy - well done to your DS for the offers. Fingers crossed for Highgate. They will let know by 8th right? In the meanwhile are you gonna take up the habs or UCs offer?
