What time does your child's school start, end and how long is lunch time?

My DC's school are proposing starting 15 mins earlier at 8.45, shortening lunchtime to 45 mins (from 1 hour now) and finishing at the same time as now, 3.15. They claim that this longer learning time is in line with other schools. Whilst I'm not too bothered about starting a bit earlier I am really angry about the lunchtime proposal. My year 4 anxious DS is already stressed by all the tests they give him (often several a week, 3 today! ), he takes 40 mins to eat a small lunch because he is a slow eater and from y3 there are no afternoon playtimes.sad So wondering about other schools times to help me compose my response!

Not sure how long lunch is but at the school my DS will start at in Sept (independent) YR and KS1 do 8.15 - 3.45. I think that is a really long day for littlies.

At my school KS1 and below do 8.45 - 3.15 and KS2 8.45 - 3.30. Lunch for N - Y2 is 75mins and KS2 60mins. No afternoon play though.

Start 8.55am, lunch 1 hour. Finish 3.05pm. 2 x 20min breaks too. I'd be quite pleased if they squeezed in some extra teaching time somewhere in the day (ha! tiger mum?!), but I'd not want any HW if hours were extended.

Primary and is open 8.15 till 3.15 with an hour for lunch. Whole school has a 20 minute morning break and KS1 have a 20 minute afternoon break too.

Our school is 8.50 until 3.30 with an hour for lunch.

tacal Thu 27-Mar-14 18:25:54

9am until 3pm. 40 or 45 mins for lunch.

Mine start at 8:55 and finish at 3:20. Lunch is 1 hour and everyone has 15 min break in the morning. Ks2 don't have afternoon break.

So Infants have 4 hours 55 min a day and juniors 5 hours 10 minutes. I think grin.

8.45-3.10 with 1hr for lunch (1hr 15 for YR). I think a good lunch break is important, they need time to eat properly and let off steam.

Doors open 8.45, register at 8.55
School ends at 3.10, an hour for lunch where my dc went

Last school I taught
8.50 - 3.10 and 45mins for lunch.
It was much better - very popular to have the shortened lunchbreak.

Haven't known afternoon playtimes anywhere for 20 odd years (when schools started finishing at 3.10/ 3.15 rather than 3.30/3.40) - except of course for those in Reception where they follow the EYFS and have freeflow / outdoor play a lot of the time.

We need an hour's lunch break as we wouldn't be able to get all the children through lunches in time. We also have many children who come from out of catchment so tend to do clubs at lunchtime too.

DD's primary school had children coming from a wide area (independent so no catchment) and the longer lunch break allowed clubs to take place more easily.

DD (p4) and DS (p1) are both 9am until 3pm with a 45 minute lunch break at 12.15. There is a 15 minute interval at 10.30. The whole school operates on these times. If the weather is very good (we're in Lanarkshire, so not often), they get an afternoon playtime as a treat.

TheBitterBoy Thu 27-Mar-14 18:35:56

In at 8.50, 1 hour for lunch, no afternoon play, finish at 3.15

Noggie Thu 27-Mar-14 18:42:02

9am to 3pm with one short break called 'fruit break' in the morning, lunch time of about 45 min (I think ) and one short break in the afternoon.

candycrushhater I am in North Lanarkshire.

TeenAndTween Thu 27-Mar-14 18:56:16

DD2 juniors: Doors open 8:45, work starts 8:55(?), end of day 3:20, 50mins or 1hr for lunch, can't remember which.
