My little girl is in year doing optional sats. She has done the year 2003 foots print in space and just done the 2006 changes.

I down load from the Internet does anyone out they know where I can download some other years maybe 2007, 2008, or 2009.

They only published y5 sats three times - 2006, 2003 and 1999.

I would be careful about which ones you do at home - your dd is likely to do these at school, especially the 2006 one.

Why do you want them? It sounds like you want them to do at home so that when your daughter does them at school, she will have an unfair advantage?

I you want to help your daughter out with exam style questions your best bet is to go to the cgp website and buy some books from them. Their layout is similar to what they can expect with sats and they have loads of books to choose from which won't break the bank.

Why on earth are you downloading the papers they're doing at school from home? What's to be gained?

It will skew the school's understanding of her abilities if you prep her with papers that they are actually very likely to use!

A girl in dd's class (year6) got 48/50 in the level 6 maths paper. She had done the test the week before with her mother. So unhelpful because means that the school have a less than clear picture of areas she might need help in!

this is my personal hate as a y6 teacher!
We use the papers to track progress and analyse them for gaps in learning/understanding in order to provide appropriate interventions or whole class teaching as required.
It does the children no good at all (in terms of learning) to have an inflated result because they have done it at home with mum and dad so they know the answers but don't really understand the concepts. It means the child won't get the teaching they require.
We ask parents not to do this but I know some still do and somehow think they are helping. It doesn't!

Could also be construed as cheating, actually.

its not cheating my child is home school and I just want to assess her, and make she was on the right track

It was a friend who recommend these optional stats paper to me, since my child was not attending school and being home tutored.

It would be a good way on assessing her levels.

Then that's different, isn't it? You didn't state you were home-edding in your OP.

Does she have a tutor for English, OP?

Report
Thewildsofnarnia · 27/03/2014 16:43

Sorry, that was not clear from the op

I am sorry I did not mention that at the OP. She used to have a private tutor put the tutor had to travel abroad so I know teaching her - self. That is why I am looking for some good resources. I have bought a lot of books and looking online 2.

It's not cheating to ensure your DC is familiar with the style if an exam.

DD1 is dyslexic, she doesn't always read the instructions on papers accurately or rushes and gets what's being asked back to front.

It's not parents fault if no new papers have been produced.

It's not a great idea to use one of only 3 papers in existence though - it's likely that a school would use at least two.

I didn't think you could actually download them as "civvies," actually. Tried once before and hit a blank - have only been able to do it through school log-ins. But it seems I must have been looking in the wrong place.

Nocomet, there are plenty of ways to ensure that your child can get familiarised with a Sats format without giving them the actual paper they will be sitting at school.

"It's not parents fault if no new papers have been produced."
Those non-stat papers are not aimed at parents though. They're aimed at schools, who can make do with only 3, if they're used as intended.

I only practiced Y6 SATs, but had I googled Y5 papers I'd have had no idea they didn't make new ones every year.

If teachers let rare resources leak (the university med school guarded difficult to set multi choice papers zealously) that is not parents fault.

CATs are impossible, there are three questions, that's it.

Teachers don't 'let' anything leak! What on earth makes you think it's in any way a teachers' decision??!!

Obviously being home schooled is different.
In school I know a child or two this happens with and like others say, defeats object of paper.
Wouldn't work with my child anyway as he would just 'tell'! Grin.

Some one put the Y5 SATs papers on the web and most likely it is either teachers or friends of teachers.

I'm guessing it was done in all innocence before people realised no new ones were going to be written.

In any case, since they are only for internal purposes, surely teachers could mix up questions and change numbers so it doesn't matter.

"most likely it is either teachers or friends of teachers."
Why do you deduce that?

"I'm guessing it was done in all innocence before people realised no new ones were going to be written."
It was clear from early on (when none was produced in 2000) that the non-stat papers were not going to be a regular thing.

"surely teachers could mix up questions and change numbers so it doesn't matter."
Yeah, coz we have nothing better to do than cut up published test papers and stick them into a different order and re-photocopy, just because some parents have had the bright idea of giving the test to their child in advance to ensure a better score.

Change numbers?

These are reading papers, not Maths.

Your deduction is bizarre.

Or you could do what secondary teachers do and pull a level out of thin air and not worry about test papers.

(And after reviving at least 9 secondary school reports I can assure you that's what happens)
